I just purchased my first SAR1 and I want to refinish the stock.  I have searched the ak-47.gunsnet.net forum but I am still stuck.  I can't get the wood off of the gas tube after I remove it from the rifle.  Is there a site that has directions on how to do this?  Thanks for the help!  I will get pics up as soon as I can find a new place to store them online.

Step into my office..... [:D]

Can you get the tube and upper grip off the gun?  That's the first step.

Once it's off, all you have to do is realize the wood grip can be twisted off the tube.  See the metal flange at either end of the grip?  Get a vise, properly cushion the metal, and then twist the wood 180 degrees.  It'll fall right off.

My most humble thanks to the raven!  I just had to dislodge the oil/varnish/stain etc glue that held the wood to the gas tube.  I was just a little worried about applying a lot of pressure to any part without a little reassurance.
