How many people does the US government employ?

Anybody have a link that shows how many folks are on the US government payroll? If anybody also has the breakdown at the state level I'd like to see that as well.

That's about 1 for every 154. I've heard that the total is somewhere around 1 for every 30 when you add in all the Federal Agents, FBI, ATF, DEA etc. etc.

Wonder if it'll ever get to 1 for 1?

I believe that the number I posted includes all civilian Federal (non-military) employees. There is a seperate link that allows you to get the military stats.

Still, 1 Federal employee for every 154 non-Federal employees is staggering. Then consider how many State government employees there are and the total number is truly incredible.

Big government, nah...
