Some of you know I have been temp off work due to an on the job accident. I am now finished with the surgery phase, and was sent to a physchiatrist. Body & mind Dr., for work rehab.

His name was (fake example) John Williams-Walters. I asked the receptionist if this was a woman with a mans first name, she said a man who took his wifes name. I SMELLED A LIBERAL...

We started name, etc..got to hobby. 'I love guns'. 'Excuse Me?' 'I LOVE GUNS'..I collect, shoot, buy sell and trade, I JUST LOVE GUNS...He inquired, and I started on my Second Ammendment versus the socialists AND he was speechless. He paused and we moved on.

He asked about my weight gain and eating habits. I said +30 lbs, and I eat at Wendys. He asked me if I cooked. I said no, and I live alone. He said I should cook, I said NO WAY IN HELL...Thats womens work. I told him Women were not just here to clean and reproduce, but to cook too. His jaw hit the ground, and the pen went down. So as I took on a prehistoric Archie Bunker(RIP) mentality, and prepared for my academy award, I watched this 'passive liberal' become enraged.

The more he started to try and spread his Liberal blather, the more I insisted women should serve gratefully. We talked for almost 45 mins (1/2 hr appointment) before he SAID he was a psychaitrist. I then went on to tell him what BS I thought Psychobabble was.

Needless to say, that poor hyphenated Dr had a ROUGH day at the office....

Uh, I hope you realize that the shrink can have you put under psych hospital observation for 72 hours and there ain't nothing you can do about it. All of your guns would be confiscated and not be returned until you your deemed competent. Sometimes judges never return guns no matter what the outcome of the evaluation.

I wouldn't worry too much about the 72 hr hold (5150). But the shrink could put your return to work in jeopardy if he was an employer or comp payed doctor.

You could possibly be required to go to more "counseling" before you return. And if they don't get the answers they want, they might find a reason to let you go.

Cav, it really doesn't surprise me that you ran into a weird shrink. Alot of my family is/was in that profession. Let's put it this way, there was only ONE physchiatric professional that I have met that seemed like a normal Joe. The most wacked out people go into that profession. I guess it's in the hopes they'll learn to diagnose & cure themselves.

My wife is a family doc. Most of her colleagues in the psychiatric end of the profession are ALL like the Caspar Milquetoast CavVet rubbed into the dirt. (Good on yer, CavVet!) Many have some REALLY messed up families too. One local psych was murdered by her "troubled" sixteen-year-old daughter, using a hammer, a while back. My wife knew her and the daughter, and said she wasn't surprised one bit- both were wackos from day one. the difference was: one was being treated for mental illness (unsuccessfully, natch), the other was paid to treat those with mental illness....

As for the curative effects of psychiatry and counseling, I remember reading a very long interview with the late psychiatrist R. D. Laing, who said that psychiatry really didn't have all that much effect on people, since most people tended to get better, or learned to cope with their conditions, anyway.

His main take, after being in the field for so many years, was that psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors mainly provided a sort of "hand-holding" comfort for the patient- a bit like the Reverend on the Simpsons, who pats people on the shoulder, and says "There, there..there, there", and every bit as ineffectual.

RD Laing was the fellow who said that the insane were only reacting in a sane manner to an increasingly changing, alienating, and isolating modern world that had indeed, itself gone insane. The insane's problem was that they had only reacted accordingly...

After all the world went through in the 20th century, who wouldn't be surprised?

About 20 years ago, I received a DWUI ticket and one of the condition set by the judge was to go talk to a shrink at the mental health center.
At this time, was not told they charged $120/hr for this service and was a bit steamed. I went to the appointment and all this guy could do for 55 minutes was talk about his alcohol and drug problem. Every drug known to man, this shrink took.
I didn't say one word for the 55 minutes he poured out his life story to me. He than said, well, we still have 5 minutes left, you want to say anything.
I said yes, I don't know you, I don't care to know you, I really don't give a f#ck about your life and how fucked up you are. It really doesn't concern me whether you live or die and how you relish your drug induced state. I'm just here because I was ordered to do so. Guess I wasted $120 to hear about your pathetic life.
I got the report back from them saying I was uncooperative. My life is my life and I'll choose when and who to tell. As for the alcohol, haven't touched the stuff in years, not because I can't handle it, health reasons were my main concern.

I love it!! Shrinks are whats wrong with the world/country today. They are nothing but a bunch of drug pushers, fucked up to boot. Generally causing more harm than good. I work in the medical field and see the harm they cause every day.
