I have put a Butler creek replacement bull barrel and synthetic stock on my 10/22. It does not have the barrel on it, so I would say no, It is not a requirement for proper operation of your rifle.

Not only is it unnecessary, it may actually degrade your accuracy a bit by putting pressure on the barrel (esp. if you use a sling when shooting).

Most 10/22s that I've had shoot better without it.

DAMN RIGHT!
Get rid of it. I free-floated both of mine COMPLETLEY...and Glass-bedded the reciever. I think I have pics.Lemme check. I chpooed off the entire BBL channel with a band-saw, and finished it. Kinda like those Blaser Tacticals. That damn Barrel band is J_U_N_K |
