Teenager executed with machine gun

A TEENAGER was executed with a machine gun as he sat in his car.

A killer sprayed the driver’s door and window with bullets and the 19-year-old died instantly.


Police believe the weapon was a MAC-10 Ingram machine pistol, which has become the weapon of choice among gangland hit men.


Neighbours in Longsight, Manchester, heard the sound of rapid-fire gunshots at 12.50am on Saturday morning.


They went out to find the body of a young man slumped in the driver’s seat of a white Fiat Uno parked in Montgomery Road, close to its junction with Beresford Road. The window had shattered and there were track lines of bullets along the door.


The victim, who has not yet been identified, is believed to live with his parents less than half a mile from where he was killed.


Detectives suspect a number of his friends may have witnessed the shooting, but have gone to ground in fear.

Det Supt Tony Porter said: ‘‘It appears he was shot at close range while sitting in his car.


‘‘There was no sign that an attempt had been made to open the door, so it may have happened without warning. A car was heard to screech away moments after the gunfire and we want to hear from anyone who saw a vehicle travelling at speed shortly before 1am.


‘‘While this has all the hallmarks of a gangland murder, there is no evidence the victim was a significant figure in any gang — although like many young men in this area, he will have known people involved in criminality.’’


The murder bears a striking resemblance to the shooting of taxi driver Mohammed Fayyaz Ahmed, 29, killed by a similar weapon while parked in nearby Prince Albert Avenue, Levenshulme. Police have said it may have been a case of mistaken identity.


One resident who lives in nearby Duncan Road and was in his car near Beresford Road at the time of the shooting said he heard three shots at about 12.30pm.


He then saw a motorbike heading towards him, but was unable to see the rider’s face due to his crash helmet.


Resident Patrick Hessian, 55, who has lived in nearby Farrer Road for the past 33 years, said: ‘‘This is nothing, the way things go around here. Young people are forever speeding around in cars.’’


Another 40-year-old resident who lives near to the scene of the shooting with his wife and two children said: ‘‘This is a horrible place to live — it’s got to the point where you’re afraid to go out.’’
