I see AKs for 199, on up to 799 for pre bans.

I am basically looking for the best deal.  I have fired some of the ultra cheapos, and the accuracy, workmanship, fit/finish sucks, understandably.

What should one look for, price wise?  For milled and/or stamped?  300-350 is the commone price for the stamped bulgarians/romanians.  Is this basically the norm, or could better be had?

Ya ain't gonna get an AK Hicap for under $300
out the door noway! ( legally )

SAR 1 0r SAR 2 is the best deal currently.

Ditto on the SAR 1 and AIM Surplus.

I just sold my Milled Reciever MAK-90 with like a billion mags, 2 Drums, accessories out the wazoo....

Great Gun....

But my 5.45 SAR-2 turned out to be so superior in the accurace dept, I didn't care for the MAK anymore...

Cool, thanks.  No problem with the stamped recievers then, eh?  I have heard they vibrate and can seperate.

What do AK recievers go for?

Don't worry about stamped receivers, in the grand scheme all milled receivers get you is more weight at a greater price. The Soviet army UPGRADED from milled AK-47's to stamped AKM's. Search around on http://ak-47.gunsnet.net/akboard/ultimatebb.cgi you can get more info there. As far as prices go  the SAR's are a good buy as are the Mak 90. They look like shit but shoot great. I have a pre 89 ban Poly underfolder with around 3K rounds fired without a misfeed, Its accurate enough for me whenever I shoot it I just walk out back and bang away on a tree stump a hundred yds off. I have never sat down and put it on paper, I may do that this weekend at the Bulletfest. Another option for you would be to get one of the "postban" Poly Techs. Check CDNN in a Shotgun News, they are true pre ban PolyTechs that got caught up in customs. Kengs cut a deal with ATF that they would lop off the bayo lug, pin/weld the threaded barrel and put on a thumbhole stock. They put on nice synthetic Choate stocks and run about 400$, personally I would take that over 10 SAR's. Great gun great price, check it out.

I am thinking about getting a SAR-1 any more comments on thier accuracy and reliability. The problem is I sometimes ask my self why should I buy an AK type rifle. I already have a great reliable and very accurate AR-15. But for that price I almost can not turn them down.
