I used to be rabidly anti-LEO.
Then, I went on one of those police ride-along deals, and I sort of mellowed,
Yeah, there are some guys who are assholes, and to make it even worse they are endowed by the state with insane power over your life.
But for the most part, the guys I met were allright.
Today, I went to the gun-shop, and there was this LEO there.
He was I guess, hell. I don't know.
Maybe 40? 45?
Anyway, I usually don't like them being in the gun shop with me, since it seems that most of them don't like the idea of anyone other then themselves having any hardware.
So, he asked the gun shop owner what he thought about HS2000's.
The gun shop dude pretty much said that the only person he had ever sold one to was standing right next to him (that would be me) and what did I think>?

So I pretty much gave him my review of the gun (There is no gun on this earth I think any higher of than the HS2000 at any price)--

So then, we got to bullshitting about guns in general. He found out that I had a Gyrojet, and said he had always wanted one, and could he shoot it. So, jokingly, I said
"Yeah, Sure. Rounds cost me like $20.00 a pop. If you get me some $19.00 Glock 20 15 Rounders (Translation- Post Ban Mags) i'll let you shoot it."

And he says "Sure!"

I'm figuring he was just joking, but he said
"Look. 10 rounds is no different than 15. If you can't hit it within 10, you aren't any more dangerous with 15....I think you should have any capacity you want."

I passed on his agreement to get me posties (He could've been joking, I guess), but we got into this deep conversation of "When they ban our guns"
He agreed with me that it is pretty much an inevatibillity that sometime in the near future, AW's will be banned.
So of course, I asked the obvious question.
"What would you do??"

The answer pretty much floored me.
He said... (I'm paraphrasing a bit here, but not much)

"Well, I own 1 AK47 and 2 AR15's. They are my private guns, and any ban would affect them. You have to understand that I am a shooter like you, and I take the Second Amendment just as seriously as any other gun guy. My dad fought in World War 2 to protect our rights, the right to own a gun included. If it ever came down to it, I would stand and fight with the gun owners first and foremost. "

So I asked

"Fight like [red]"FIGHT"[/red] fight?"

and he said
"Yup. Fight."

I was beaming from ear to ear. [:D] [:D] [:D]
It is pretty kewl to know that there are LEO's who are like us.

My neighbor is a cop and actually told me not to register my rifles, though I ended up doing it anyhow.  He is not a black rifle shooter but his dept. has MP5s as the trunk gun, so when we go shoot he brings it along.  He is very pro gun and tells people he helps to get a gun to protect themselves.  He is a true good guy.

I live in Florida (no laws about registering guns--yet) and was considering getting a concealed carry permit, but after thinking about it for a while---I don't think I want to give up info about myself in case there is a mandatory registration of all firearms or even a ban. What do you guys think?

Well I don't really like cops but I was told by the guy who owns the gunshop I go to that one of our local cops does not himself like cops. A cop who does not like cops, him I like. Yes there are a lot of good guy cops, but it is just that the bad ones cause so much trouble that I have started hating all of them. Maybe in the future I will be able to not dislike them I can always hope.

If you have ever gone into a gun shop and purchased a firearm new, and filled out one of those yellow 4473 forms, they have all the info they will ever need (Assuming you were dumb enough to give your SSN, which is O_P_T_I_O_N_I_A_L , not mandatory)---

So, if you have, you way as well. I have mine, and hopefully i'll be C3 soon enough.
They know I have guns. It's up to me what I want to do if they ever decide to want to take them.
Hiding in the shadows isn't an option for me.

This guy was beyond good.
He was [I]one of us[/I]
Don't get me wrong. I live right next to an establishment that draws 1000 people ages 18-25 every Saturday... It's the cops that keep things in line, and my neighborhood tollerable... And I appreciate that.
But this guy was flat out hardline RKBA, like me.

I almost forgot, there was even a Federal Agent I think might have been ATF that the owner of the gunshop in Mass I used to go to told me used to collect NFA weapons and sometimes even brought a machine gun to the local range so the other guys could shoot it. He is still a Fed but not such a bad guy as far as Feds go. Who knows with luck he might even  be on our side.

Every one who works for the Government is not neccessarly the enemy we just need to know who is.

True, but I have feeling there are more like him than we know. It's just that the bad cops are good at standing out.

I guess so.

That would qualify as a trifecta.

Come to the PRH (Peoples Republik of Hawaii) and take a good hard look at the gestapo we have for LEO's. Honolulu's finest totally suck and, for the most part, as worse than the criminal element! Not saying that all LEO's in other places are bad but here we don't have cops, just stinking PIGS! Legends in their own minds! Heck, one of our former police chiefs, Nakamura is his name, said, and I quote "Hawaii is not physically attached to the United States so all the rules don't apply, particularly concerning the 2nd amendment"! Now THAT'S A PIG! Anyway, he had to retire cuz he got parkinsons disease and the new one we got is not as bad but is running a close second.

Is all that shit you have Form 4 transferrable, or borrowed?

Dude, really. We do have to get together so I can shoot that shit.
Up here in NoFlo, we have a K_I_L_L_E_R  full auto range.
Last time I was out, there were M-16's and those new Vector UZI's....
They have a big machinegun shoot every year. You should come up..

ALL of mine are personally owned. No agency hardware. I have access to a private range for shooting anything. But thanks for the invite. And the vector UZIs are cool. Already have a UZI but still might buy another.

Edited because I need sleep and can't spell.

Go figure, I work as a LEO in one of the most goddamn gun-restrictive parts of the U.S. - New York City.  I love the look I get when I tell people, "yeah I got a couple of AR-15's"...I know they're thinking, "Did he say M16's???"
Oh well, those gun-haters don't know what fun they're missing. [beer]

McUzi,

I was just there today testing(and buying) a RR/M-16. Is this range east of Green Cove Springs, over the bridge, about 8 miles, and then turn in by a corn field?

If Massachusetts is any indication (heaven forfend that we should use MA as a yardstick on gun attitudes...), the more urban the area, the more anti-gun are the cops, at least the chiefs of police. At my local gun shops, half the customers there are cops, buying black rifles, pistols, anything you can think of. They detest their CLEOs, too, just as we do. CLEOs are often politicians in uniform, whose main aim in life is Preserving Number One, and F&*# all else and anybody, even in (and esp. in) the dept., one local LEO told me- I had to agree with him on that one.

Unfortunately cops that are pro RKBA or at the least don't care either way are becoming fewer and farther between.  At the recent Gun Safety Forum which was put on in Phoenix by RKBA activists. the salty old cops on the LE panel in told us to watch out for the younger generation of cops starting to hit the streets, many of them had no experience with firearms before the academy and they will be less sympathetic to gun owners.

That's true for the general population. Our children are being brainwashed to believe that guns are of themselves violent and dangerous. Anti gun cops are far and away a minority but it is true they are growing in numbers. Well maybe not anti but at least indifferent to the second amendment. The rank and file cops are largely pro gun and anti gun crime(violent gun crime). I see a change in attitude towards RKBA
in the younger generation of cops I work with. I attribute this to two things No.1 fewer and fewer have military service(conservative, pro freedom) No.2 more and more have college(liberal, political correctness) a good balance is to have both. The future for gun owners is uncertain I'm sure we all agree. It really does trouble me at times that the sport/hobby that I enjoy so much has an uncertain future. I am a peace officer and I am on your side. What is so hard to believe about cops being pro RKBA. I think the anger and mistrust on this issue is way misdirected, perhaps that's part of the reason we are losing ground in our fight to retain our freedoms. Go after the people who make the laws not the people who are bound by law and duty to enforce them. I have enforced laws that I don't agree with. It doesn't make me weak or immoral. I don't know where the line is for me. I guess there will come a time that I have to decide if I can cross it or not. I'm afraid of being put in the position where I have to enforce laws that I may not be able to bring myself to enforce. Will I become an oppressor of the people or a criminal in the eyes of the law? Cops are truly in a tough spot. I am a free man and I intend to stay that way. I hope I have the moral courage to make the right choice when/if that day comes. Not a rant, just thinking out loud.

You don't seem to get it.  Even a pro-gun, NRA card-carrying cop will most likely uphold the law or whatever his superiors instruct him to do because he has bills to pay.  Talk is extremely cheap.  I hope some guys figure it out, but it is just too easy to become convinced that the ends justify the means all the time.

Actually, I don't think it matters much if cops are pro-self-defense or not.  Government policy has a life of its own.  Once it gets started, no good intentions in the world can rein it in.  Fascism wasn't supposed to end in genocide, it was supposed to end it utopia.  We see well-meaning people doing things that they think will bring about peace and prosperity.  I think Bush really wants to create smaller government and stop the march towards the precipice, but he is finding out that it isn't so easy.  If Murphy's Law were not in play it would be different.  But it is, and too many people in our country want to be democratic socialists like the Europeans.  They refuse to accept that fact that our republic is superior in every way.  They think price controls, universal healthcare, and drug and gun prohibition are the best for everyone.
