Does anyone know of a place where a person could buy a .22 cal gatling gun? I am under the impression that these are legal, and need not be licensed. Is this true? What is average price for something like this?

IIRC, antiUSSA has one. Shoot him an email, I'm sure he could give you some pointers.

Manual crank or electric motor?

Manual crank. I think ATF claims ones with motors are full auto since you pull the trigger and it will fire till you let up or no more rounds.

Manual crank is legal.  Seen an article in SAR about .22 gatlings.

The Calico’s are not Gatling Guns, Gatling Guns use rotating barrels like a GE Minigun but only hand cranked. Actually the Minigun is an electrically powered Gatling Gun. There used to be someone who made real .22 Cal. Gatlings. They looked like a table top model but were made out of either blued steel or brass and were mounted on a wheeled gun carriage just like they where the late 1800’s. The gun was equipped with a drum magazine on top and had a side crank that was just like the one on a full sized gun. When you turned the crank it would fire just like the large one. It was really a Gatling Gun but in a lot smaller size. If I am correct the brass one cost about $5,000 and the blued steel one about $2,500 and this was in the mid 70’s.  I always wanted one but I can’t justify the expense at least at this time.  I have a civil war to prepare for.

I saw one of these at a show. I guess it would be best from a table or something as this item only stands less than 2 feet off the ground.

Well, what does the .22 gatling gun (not the 10/22 version) go for now? Is it a class III weapon? Has anyone seen one really firing?

Just wondering

LOL, I see I stirred up a lot of intrest, but has anyone ever played with one of these? The web site with the photo of the kid I see sells plans for the guns for $58. That would be good, but I wonder what the stuff costs to make it with milling and all. Damn the videos of the thing look damn cool. from that site, it looks like they are considered a class I weapon. No registration or anything.

I bought one of the Knob Creek special gatling guns.  I picked up two used Ruger 10/22's with some 50rd Ram-Line magazines.  When I first shot it, I got a major chubby!  The thing is awesome and very reliable.  Ruger 10/22's are easy to find and parts are readily available.  Just my 2 cents for anyone who is interested in one of these.

Here you go:

Want to build a full size Gatling Gun?.
Posted By: TDI
Date: 6/22/01 19:49

If you've ever thought about building a full size replica Gatling Gun, here is your chance to purchase a set of high quality 421 manganese bronze castings (C86500) which will allow you to build a full size display or working .45-70 Govt 1874 Gatling Gun. Included are castings for the breech casing, door, door hinge, rear cascabel plate, and engraved builders plate. This is 70 pounds of high quality manganese bronze, cast by professionals who know how to make a defect free, quality part. Cast from patterns made using an original Colt Gatling for authenticity. Included is a list of resources for original Gatling Gun blueprints, barrel blanks, wheels, books, and other items to help complete your project. Completion of these castings into either a non-functional replica or a working gun will require the skills of a knowledgeable machinist with access to milling/boring equipment, metal lathe(s), and drilling equipment. Without this bronze casting set this would be an impossible project. Email me for digital photo's if interested.

Cost of the casting set, crated and ready to ship, is $1899. Price is FOB Sacramento, California and all orders will be shipped within 10 days of receipt of order. Shipment will be by UPS, remember, this is 70 pounds of metal, we'll be happy to quote freight charges. Payable by MO, cashiers check, and personal check (10 days).

Three day inspection return privilege, no returns if any attempt has been made to machine the parts. As with any cast product, all effort has been made to assure that there are no visible casting defects or internal voids. Once the machining process begins, if non-repairable casting defects are discovered, TDI specifically limits our liability to the no cost replacement of the casting in question exclusive of any labor invested. We are able to sell individual parts if you should have any "non-recoverable" errors during the building project.

Anyone who can own a firearm may legally build a Gatling Gun for personal use. Check with ATF for the rules governing the building of firearms for personal use. Original hand crank operated Gatling type guns are not NFA firearms and as such are unrestricted. Wholesale inquiries welcome.

Unless the Gatling guns look EXACTLY like this one, its NOT a Calico.

I have seen 3 different manufactures if this design in the past 3 years, each with their differences.

I feel sorry for you guys that want to buy these kits.  My Original Calico was only $79.(back in '92) minus the guns. but now the prices are up towards $600. and UP...
