I have to say one of the best Nam movies was Full metal Jacket and I have to say the best guy in it was Animal Mother

I got to go with Sean Penn in Casualties of War (I think that's the one).

"Though I walk through the valley of Death, I shall fear no evil, for I am the baddest motherfucker in the valley"

Top that.

Yeah, Kubrick's FMJ was awesome.

Eyes Wide Shut, Clockwork Orange, 2001, . . ., maybe only Scorsese (sp?) can compare.

Ditto!

I loved the line about now being a good time to talk with God. I wish I could remember it word for word. That's a classic! I may have to watch it tonight and post the line.

Edited cuz I got it:

"A little religious communication might not be a bad idea at this stage of the game. Now, myself, I don't take any chances. I talk to Mohamad, Buddah, Christ and other religious honchos I can come up with. There is no such thing as an atheist in a combat situation..."

Geez, I'd have to say  The Green Berets with John Wayne.
I shed a tear at the end.

Apocalypse would have been my second vote.  Good morning Viet-Nam has to be my all time favorite though.  Robin Williams kills me, even if he is a real a-hole in real life.

I LOVED Sgt. Roach from "Platoon Leader".  He blasted many gooks with his shotgun, and carried an unauthorized .357 Magnum.

John Wayne in "The Green Berets" was my favorite Duke role, but my favorite actor was Tom Beringer in "Platoon".

Animal Mother in FMJ.

"Hey jungle bunny: Thank God for the sickle cell, huh,,,"

And when they were looking down on Hand Job's and Mr Touchdown's dead bodies: "Better you than me"

It was an honest look at how very close friends give each other a ration of crap, and just laugh it off, no matter the topic.

Ermey did a great job with the G.S. Hartman character: he should have won the oscar for it.

ANY movie with John Wayne is tops,
and the door gunner from "Full Metal Jacket" is great, but my vote is for Sgt. Elias and Sgt. Barnes in "Platoon."

Anybody else pick up on the leadership of the lieutenant in "Platoon."  My favorite scene is when Sgt. Barnes smacks the shit out of LT and takes the radio from him.

"what do i think about our involvement in vietnam?...well...i think we should win."
- animal mother

as far as the LT in platoon, i partially felt sorry for the guy.  they rushed these guys through ocs right after graduating college, they don't have any combat experience,  then they expect them to be able to effectively lead a platoon of troops who've already seen months if not years of combat.  then again, thats under the assumption that the LT character in platoon was green.

John Wayne, of course.

I sometimes lace movie quotes into my everyday conversations, and noone seems to catch on.
