We have real hardwood flooring, and it seems to be impervious to liquids.  I would guess that this might vary, however, with the fit of the individual pieces and the type of finish.  The pre-finished stuff might be worse in this regard, since there is no continuous polyurethane barrier to prevent liquid from getting into the gaps.

You might want to contact your vet, or have him/her refer you to a bahavior modification specialist.  Some people think that this is hoakey, but in reality it works very often and is, in the long run, sometimes much cheaper than working around the problem.

I had both in my old house.

The Pergo stuff said not to let water sit on it for too long (I can't remember the exacts).

With a real wood floor you put down a couple coats of polyurithane (sp) that seal up the cracks.  It may be a better option for you.

I believe that the new engineered flooring (Pergo, etc.) is nearly indistructible. You may want to check it out. Standing-water times are measured in hours or days, IIRC....

Also, the fact that you change the carpet and eliminate the smell may break Fido of the habit, from what I've heard...

Just have the cops over to meet the dog.  Shouldn't be a problem after that.

I just put down a laminate florring in my house. it was a company called "all-lock" , just like pergo. it had wax impregnated on the edges of the board to hold out some of the water. i am pretty happy with the overall durability of the floor. kids have spilled drinks on it and it did not seep through, although it was not on the floor that long. this flooring is hard to keep clean. shows everthing, and trying to vaccum up the dogs hair off of the floor sucks, it like static cling. i wish i would have went with real wood floors. with several coats of polyureathane on hard wood and nothing is going to seep past it.

I had Pergo in my old place. I have real wood in my new place.

I prefered the Pergo. I have 2 dogs and they're scratching up the real wood.

I took a full swing with a pitching wedge and clipped the pergo...not a single mark, scratch, anything.

Looked every bit as good as real wood
