In a rarely used back bedroom of my house, I have a problem with a pet whizzing on the floor.  I clean it up constantly, but over the past few years the urine smell has become constant.  I know it's gone down to the pad.  It's embarrassing when I have company over, because the main bathroom accumulates this smell.

I can't break the pet of this habit, and I can't get rid of it.

So, I've thought very seriously about pulling up the carpet and laying down an easily cleaned wood or faux wood floor.  Maybe with a few washable rugs on top.

Is the laminate going to be an inpenetrable barrier to liquid?  What about the cracks between the slats?  Can I put anything down that will prevent the urine from going into these cracks and being soaked up by the wood?

Any suggestions on type/brand?

I know I could just pull up the carpet and replace the pad, but there is some HEAVY furniture in that room, and I'd rather do this just once and not do it again.
