A moderate earthquake occurred at 17:36:32 (UTC) on Thursday, January 13, 2005. The magnitude 5.1 event has been located in SOUTHERN ALASKA. (This is a computer-generated message -- this event has not yet been reviewed by a seismologist.)

Earthquakes usually happen along the southern arc of Alaska's Paciic coast, the Arctic coast never gets any seismic activity. Although the last big one we had (in november 2002) was a 7.9, deep underground. Its epicenter was near Mt McKinley, in the interior. That was very strange.
