...to announce budget cuts for the City of Detroit.

64% of the city's budget ($1,000,000,000) goes to payroll and benefits. He wants the unions to agree to get paid for 36 hours of work per week, but working 40!

YEAH RIGHT!

So let me get this straight. The city of Detroit wants to become the polar opposite of France with a reduced pay work week ?

WTH is going on in this country?

Hell, if they are Union they aren't even working 36 hours a week.  Why would they want to start working more than they are now?

If the Union workers would work 40 hours a week, Det-Riot would be able to reduce their workforce and save money that way.  OOOOPPPSSS!  You can't fire a Union employee.

The outlook isn't good.

Has he thought of turning the to U.N. for aid?

When you think about it, a lot of the city workers only work about half the time anyhow.

You mean the People Mugger? And yes the stadiums did, for a few hours they are at the game. Then the exodus starts at the end of the game as people rush to get out of town.

The taxpayers pay his food bill, which has to be considerable.  Detroit is third world like no other city in the USA.

What happened to all of that casino money?

Where is Jenny Grandholm? Surely her and K-Wame' can fix this problem.

I used to work for the Water department. There were tons of people with $30,000- a-year jobs, that were pulling over $100,000. Fixed overtime, getting paid 40 hours while on vacation at the same time, stuff like that. I saw one of the general yard foreman get fired for contracting water connections on residential houses while on city time. Unbelievable corruption in Detroit.

Considering the level of service actually delivered they could cut the budget by 100% and it wouldn't have a noticeable impact.

I really hope the state doesn't bail that cesspool out.

A Democrat dissing the union? Whoa! There's a first. The Democratic party must want to kill the last remaing baston of their polictial base.

This is the same Mayor who's pushing for a State wide AWB. He's probably got an uzi in his desk.

Compared to losing your job and taking a 20-30% paycut?  If I were in that situation I'd consider it.

90% of those unionized city employees will never find a job with the same pay and hours they have now.

My wife is a state employee.  Her union "agreed" to the 36hr pay/ 40hr work bs two years ago.  That were the good Irish mayor got the idea. It may not be all that far fetched. Then again, there is far too much of the Coleman Young Empire imbedded in Detroit.  Corruption doesn't even begin to describe the way "business" gets done there.
