yes, but there ar better rounds, and definitely better guns than those that chamber a 30/06 round, when dealing with hoards of zombies.  Remember, they attack in larrge numbers.  are you ready?

Not really suitable for a CQB round, but other than that...

30-06 is a good round but nothing beats 5.56 for zombies.

If your zombie is behind a brick wall, 2 car doors, or 1/2 plate steel 30.06 is tops.

30.06 is good for penetration.

.308 is almost the same round and can be chambered in a smaller weapon.

For best all around, AR15 carbine chambered in 5.56x45

What do they say about almost.......  I love that the famous AR-15 crew can't talk about a rifle cartridge without bringing up the .308.  Makes me wanna puke sometimes.

IMHO .308 is the more versatile of the two (.308 vs. 30-06). I can't see taking the punishment of the 30-06 in some of my smaller .308s when I just don't have the need to shoot through brick walls or armor plates.

I got 3 but no .308s.  But then again I'm a reactionary.

Au contraire!  I'd hazzard to say that with the larger case capacity of the '06 it would have the edge over the .30/06short .308 as far as versatility goes.  One could make anemic loads to duplicate .308 ballistics or one could roll a batch of loads that would exceed anything it's smaller cousin could do.

The only thing going for the .308 is that my reloading books says it is the most accurate .30 caliber around.  That  may well be true.  But that don't make it more versatile.

Oh yeah, it may have a shorter bolt, but who owns bolt rifles anyway, right?

I'd say it is a 3 way between the 308, 30-06, and 8mm.
