Got a Blackhawk Convertible (switch cylinders from .45 Long Colt to .45 ACP). Since it was one of the first ones, I installed a Bisley grip on it plus a few other goodies. It's my favorite revolver.

The Colt feels absolutely great in the hand,and is an historical pistol still made today...They're great..but for an all around 45 Colt revolver, the Ruger is far and away the better of the two...especially if you reload for it.

I was in New Orleans a couple of weekends ago, and must say that Colt .45 and Red Dog were far and away the favorites of the street winos in the French Quarter.

The only problem with the Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Long Colt is that when you shoot up all of your ammo, you have to quit and go home.

What's not to like about a .45 Colt 255 gr SWC poking a nice round hole through things, or just giving them a good WHAM!

I'm out with my buddies and they are poppin away at those stand up steel plates with their 9mms...tink..tink...tink.. nothings falling down. So I give that plate 1 255 grainer... WHAM .. BP shoots really smoothly. All you need is soap & water to clean it. A good Ruger can shoot your average 850-900fps loads and handle the 1150-1250 255 SWC loads also. His a deer in the shoulder with that SWC, it's over.

The first handgun I bought (20 yrs. ago) was a N.M. Blackhawk in .45, with the short barrel. What a wonderful package. I haven't bought loaded ammo for it in years.

I'm in an eternal search for a classic Smith & Wesson model 25, 5", blued, in .45LC. They didn't make many with the 5" barrel, so they're pretty rare, and those who have them don't tend to part with them. I've found several 5" 625's in .45ACP, but I don't want .45ACP (I've got a Kimber Classic for that) and I don't want stainless.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Ruger Vaquero's and Blackhawks, but I want a swing-cylinder DA revolver. I just love that big N frame. [sniper] |

I have 2 Ruger Vaqueros and a Marlin Cowboy in 45 Long, but I also like my Sig P245 in 45 acp. I guess you can call me a 45 man.

Also a .45Colt fan. Over the years I've had a couple of blued 25-7's. They had 5 inch tubes, heavy but no underlug, with a non fluted cylinder. I also had a 625classic in .45Colt with a 5 inch tube and a fluted barrel. You might check some copies Gunlist. Sometimes I still see some of those oddball models listed.

Yeah, I've seen the Custom Shop guns with the non-fluted cylinders, but I'm looking for one of the ones made in the '60's. It has the fluted cylinder. I think they're 25-2's, and were a custom run. The .45 long Colt one of my favorite calibers!!
I have a Rossi lever that outshoots my buddies Winchester by a long shot, especially with hand loads. I have a stainless Vaquero also, what a sweet shooter!! I understand the nostalgia with the Colt's but they are only 5 shooters where the Vaquero is a 6 shooter. Plus you can load the Vaquero up to .44 mag levels, if you so desire. I have a 4-5/8" Ruger Blackhawk convertible that I enjoy very much, but feel it is somewhat limited for hunting due to the short barrel.
I have considered a 7-1/2" Redhawk in 45 Colt for Deer Hunting, but haven't done anything yet. Has anyone experimented with the Redhawk in 45 Colt. |

This year smith re introduced the 625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt, pricey though. Unless you have the right distributor. I think their production has gone down though.

I miss my Ruger Vaquero 45 Colt.The husband sold it.[>Q] When I asked why he sold it he said it was a pain to unload,what a pitiful excuse for selling that gun.

I have been a .45 Colt fan for years, one of the worst things I ever did was let a friend talk me out of my short barrel Ruger in switch cylinder. We used to do some crazy things with that gun. (including sizing the 405 gr 45-70 cast bullets down and loading them in the Colt case. They were slow, but it was pretty cool the way they would bust big pieces of slate rock at 50 yds. My pride and joy now is a New Service (1928 vintage) in pristine condition in .45 Colt. Shoots like a dream, and when fireing it, I can imagine myself working border patrol with the old timers in the 30's. I also have some of the double .454 ball loads made up to amaze friends (prints about 3-4" apart at 25 yds), and have loaded a bunch of the 444 Marlins cut off to cylinder length, loaded with #9 shot and an overpowder wad, (makes a dynamite snake load). All in all, its such a versatile cartridge.

I like the .45LC and it is one of the most versatile cartridges available. It can be easily loaded to outperform the .44Mag with lots less blast and recoil. I've got a Vaquero 7½" barrel, Winchester 94 and Taurus Total Titanium in the .45LC. It is FUN to shoot. Some laugh at it's "oldness" but tell that to the thousands of animals and men who "bit the bullet" on a .45LC.
