Would you pack heat even though you have the Secret Service?

I think I would.

Not-------if you had it tailored correctly.

The first time I went into a men's store to buy some suits and have my existing ones fixed for conceal carry, I got some strange looks. Now they advertise the service.

POTUS carrying a Glock?

I'm thinking I'd give Colt a call and say I needed a custom carry gun. I'm sure their engravers would have a field day.

Given all the hardware that is around the President at any moment, him carrying a gun is just plain redundant.

Still, I would probably pack a 1911.

I don't think so.

Your timetable would not permit enough practice so that you could reliably assist the SS in protecting you.  Think about it,  normally he's surrounded by not only crowds, but crowds of VIPs.

Taking a shot in those circumstances is hard enough for the guys who constantly practice.

ETA:  MP5K, shoulder rig.

Honestly, no. I'm sure SS are better shots than me and it might be taken the wrong way by some.

Oh yeah!  I don't think SS would allow it though if they knew.  Would you wear Body armor???
Link Posted: 1/11/2005 1:35:56 PM EDT

I would have an MP-5K or an SBR AR mounted in a briefcase handcuffed to my wrist. I would also have some water and an MRE stashed in there. I've been paranoid about that since I saw "Escape from New York." I would be wearing "hearing aids" at all times. How about a Kevlar-lined Brook's Brothers suit? I would put James Bond and Q to shame with all the tech I would be packing for my survival.

There was a thread a while back that was talking about Dick Cheney shooting his machinegun collection at the Secret Service's range. These guys ( the president, at least) are America's top cops and military leaders, they can play with the toys any time they want.

I read about Lyndon Johnson inspecting some F-4's and some crewman took offense and said,'Sir I need to check higher up to see if you're cleared to touch our plane." He said," Son, I'm the Commander in Chief, they are my planes." Or something like that..

Teddy Roosevelt had a rifle range on the White House grounds, IIRC.

Yes. If I'm seperated from my security or they're occupied with other threats and somebody tries assassinating me, I'm shooting. And since I'm the freaking president, you can just imagine the toys I'll have access to for concealed carry. Ooh, twin PP-2000's and that new 9mm AP the Russians designed it around. NICE.

No convulsions, they'd drop dead.

I'd carry a suitcase nuclear bomb and some tic-tacs. Leave the firearms to the professional shooters.

Once when Teddy Roosevelt visited Harvard, the university president discovered to his horror that TR was carrying a gun in violation of Massachusetts law restricting concealed handguns.

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote in her autobiography that she started carrying a gun almost as soon as she and FDR moved into the White House in 1933 because she refused round-the-clock Secret Service protection.

I would, but then I'd get arrested for being the POTUS in violation of the DC law banning firearms - talk about irony........................

Somehow I just think that POTUS has slightly more significant issues to be concerned about----leave the POTUS security issues to the SS.

I'd have 2 engraved 1911's in shoulder rigs, and 4 mags on my waist line. And I'd never wear a coat. Only a shirt and tie, with my jump boots. No pants. Just my "Home of the whooper" boxers. And I'd answer the phone in the oval office"Pink green purple, steak and cool-aid".

The EU would shit.
