Well if some of the movies are any indication.

As of late I've been collecting DVDs to build a comprehensive library of interesting films.

In addition to those I know are good, I'm getting all the films of stars I like. This week was Raquel Welch. Now I knew her films are somewhat lacking in many areas, let's face it the special effects in One Million B.C. are a lot less special than those seen in the 1933 King Kong or even 1925's The Lost World. BUT they do have Raquel Welch in them so I will suffer through almost anything to see one of the most gorgeous women of the 20th century in a fur bikini.

And judging from several stills of one film it looked like a vertiable Raquel Welch T&A Fest.

Well I just finished watching Myra Breckenridge (1970).



This film reminded me a LOT of various T&A films of the 60s & 70s like the  Russ Meyer films. In fact the one I was constantly reminded of was Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, also from 1970, that was only watchable for the T&A talents of Dolly Read and Cynthia Myers. Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls was a poorly made film with mostly uninteresting characters in an amazingly dull story about an all girl bands struggle with new fame and success. The movies monotony and lack of an intersting story or characters is surpassed only by it's weirdness and stupidity that are suppossed to be schockingly dramatic plot twists.

Myra Breckenridge was not quite as good as Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls.

Now I have heard of McCarty type accusations that some films were created deliberately to undermine the very facbric of the nation. I always thought it was bullshit but Myra Breckenridge seems as close to anything I've seen as a film designed for just such a purpose. The only thing about that is the film is so bad IF that were the intent it failed in laughable proportions. And ironically it seemed to try and lampoon itself with similar accusations within the film (possibly put there to protect itself from that kind of thing).

I don't even know where to begin with this film.

Maybe I should start with the fact that Raquel Welch plays a transvestite (which is a travesty in itself).

Maybe I should start with the fact that they tried to trot out a 1,000 year old Mae West (yes the 1930s Mae West) as some kind of sex symbol in her prime in the year 1970.

Or maybe I should start the with fact that in the end it was a movie about NOTHING, the entire thing turned out to be one long fucking dream sequence that apparantly never happened. I'm still not sure cause I don't know what the fuck the ending was suppossed to mean and I was able to figure out 2001: A Space Oddyssey by the third viewing.

And NOTHING can save this film.

Not Raquel Welch herself who could save almost anything. Apparantly she later sued to producers of this film which restores my faith in her somewhat.

Not even a very young and interesting looking Farrah Fawcett (including a nice see through neglige shot) could save this film.

Not even some gratuitous nudity could save this film.

And not even Raquel Welch in bed with Farrah Fawcett in an effort to seduce her could save this film.

Chrisakes Elvira has made better movies.

Maybe you have to be on drugs to get it. Maybe not even drugs could save this film.

God I hope Fathom is a better movie.

What about Cheech N Chong?  I Loved those movies!

I could heve editted this thing down to a decent 6 minute movie. Would have still been about absolutely nothing but it would have been watchable.

Taxi Driver was out there but still a must see.

The Godfather is easily one of the best made films ever.

Be thankful you didn't internalize the bullshit hippie socialist agenda. That movie was deliberately loaded with it.

Kinda like when I watched M*A*S*H as a kid. The leftists shit went right over my head, all I saw were a few jokes and army stuff.

Well just watched Fathom (1967).




Predictable poor man James Bond type film.

High point was Raquel in a bikini, not much else to offer.

20th Century Fox and Welch clearly made some snoozers for movies.

But by comparisson Myra Breckenridge made this film look brilliant.

Did Raquel make any good ones?
