In general, 70s movies sucked major ass, the only obvious exceptions being Star Wars and Jaws.

Or The Exorcist,  The Godfather, or many others.

The 70's weren't the greatest for movie content, but they had some nice babes that made many of the films worth watching anyway.

YUM!

" Now I have heard of McCarty type accusations that some films were created deliberately to undermine the very facbric of the nation. "

Thomas Jefferson would have attended the premiere of this movie.

1979

....the actor who played Lance claims he was high on something most of the time he was being shot, while there's a very disturbing sequence showing how they actually shot the opening scene in Willard's hotel room in Saigon, during which we learn that a) Sheen was really, truly drunk off his ass; b) he really does cut his hand when he breaks the mirror, and that's real blood; c) during those scenes where you can see Willard screaming but you can't hear anything but the soundtrack, what he's doing is cursing out Coppola for putting him through this....

And not even Raquel Welch in bed with Farrah Fawcett in an effort to seduce her could save this film.

Now THAT is a condemnation if I ever hear one.

Don't forget....

1970

The 70s were a much more adventurous time in moviemaking. Can you imagine trying to make this movie, or Blazing Saddles, or the Dirty Harry series today? The PC crowd would be all over you like a cheap suit.

The fact that it was written by Gore Vidal should've been your first clue.  By the way, did you recognize Tom Selleck in it?

Dirty Harry (1971).  That film really shows the 1970s as I remember it.

Godfather I
Godfather II
Dirty Harry
The Enforcer
Taxi Driver

and a bunch of others. Just to be fair.

The Dirty Harry movies I will give you.  I didn't care for the Godfather movies or Taxi Driver, personally.

I did recognize Selleck. I had no idea who the fuck Gore Vidal was.

Pretentious liberal asshat and hack writer who's works are popular only because they are "controversial."  Founded the U.S. Peace Party in the '60s.  And if that weren't bad enough, he's also Algore's cousin.

Isn't he a "fancy man" as well?  That could 'splain some of the movie.

Vidal was also in with JFK and his crowd for a while until they figured that having a homosexual as a crony might cost them votes..... so much for liberal tolerance, eh?

There were a lot of good movies released in the 70's if you really think about it but there was some stuff that "what the f*&k?" was I thinking when I remembered liking this movie as a kid.   My case in point is "Billy Jack".  I remember when I was a kid of 10 when this movie came out and I thought (I'll blame it on dysfunctional memory) that the movie was pretty good with the martial arts moves and all.  So one day I am at Walmart and I see it on DVD for $5.00.  What the hell, I buy it.   Curse my childhood recollections.  This movie sucked so bad, with gay hippie songs,  and looked so painfully aged that I found it hard to believe that I sat through the whole thing.   What really sucks is Billly Jack was kind of cool and had some good lines in the movie.  If they remade it without the hippie background it might be worth seeing, then again, it almost starts to sound like one of those shitty Steven Segal movies....oh well.
