It's even of questionable legality within the military! ie Shooting humans with explosive rounds is banned under the Geneva Convention. ANdy |

The question here is is it legal to buy in the states. It would seem not to be. It's in regards to the 60 Minutes story last night about the "danger" of .50 cal rifles and the doom that could be brought upon humanity if their legality continues. |

AFAIK they are legal to own and use in the U.S.
They contain less than 1/4 oz of explosive so they are not a DD (AFAIK) They can be had for $30-$60 per rnd. Get APIT....cheaper............. |

CBS 60 minutes said it was illegal, so they must be legal.

According to the Boston Gun book, they are currently legal, but getting rare and they supply the military first.
If you find any, I wouldn't buy it since it is probably stolen military ammunition. |

Strange times……… Even here in Anti Gun Britain no one has a beef about .50 cal rifles…  Personally, can't see the attraction myself… .338 LAPUA Mag has all the range, is more accurate and pretty damn deadly! ANdy |

IIRC, a Hadji was blown in half at about 1500 meters from a Raufoss hit. The AAR mentioned the Hadji was in one piece and after the shot, the torso fell out of the shooting position.

Most likely. I've read legal discussions about the ethics / legality of any .50 rd used as anti-personnel munitions. One of the Death From Afar Vols has a good example of this. To the best of my knowledge RAUFOSS (aka Golan-Globus) rounds are perfectly legal albeit extremely expensive. |

Regardless of what Mr Barrett says they are legal to own. I frequently see them at Knob Creek and occasionally other places for sale. As stated above, they are NOT a DD.

I'm looking on Gunbroker and the only thing that comes close that I've been able to find are Raufus super incendiary HE ammo.
From what I've herd incendiary rounds are nothing more than a binary chemical mix that upon impact ignites... am I right. I know that rounds that have primers on the projectile's tip are illeagle in some places. |

I think we were all discussing Federal Law. There are of course going to be several
localities where they are illegal, many places even tracers are illegal. HE means high explosive. |
