I have about 1000 rds of loose 223 ammo I want to store. How should I pack it?

.50 cal ammo can should hold it loose, or look on EE and get some strippers & bandoleers, and
pack it up, ready to use, in a couple of .50 cal cans.

You can send it my way.  I'll store it for you.

Good suggestion.  Cheaper than Dirt! sells several different kinds of cans also, if none are on the EE.

100 rounds in a heavy dute ziplock bag.  Filled bags in clean 50 or 30 cal. ammo cans.

50cal ammo cans are the obvious answer.  For something less conspicious, I use re-sealable plastic 2 gallon pails.  My wife buys dishwasher soap in the pail at Sam's Club & they are the perfect size for 1000rds of .223.

I know that breaks the rules for bein' badass tactical but they taught us to do it that way at Seal/Ranger Black Ops school.

I just ordered 3 .50 cal ammo cans from Cheaper than Dirt last week. They are about 6 bucks each. The catalog says "dented, may have some rust", but mine were freshly painted and appear new. They will easily hold about 1100 rounds of loose .45 ammo, I assume the same for .308 but I only have about 700 in there now. Time to buy more ammo.

Why do you want to store only 1000 rounds, shoot them.
1000 rounds last a month for me.

I would store it it two places:

1. I would store about 55 or so grains from the end of each round in the 100 yd berm
2. The rest, just toss somewhere
