2.4 dohc....
i do not have the manual, the car belongs to a lady who was stranded on the side of the road, i paid for the tow to her house, and swapped out the cooked alternator, had it tested, it was bad, swapped out the battery at her request also still no charge, just looking to see in a diagram where the short would most likely be located i am doing this outside, in the cold, for free

You didn't say if the car was starting or not. If not, you have a bad fusible link that goes from the starter solenoid to the alternator.

in my chilton book it shows the orange wireoff of the alt. has a 10 amp fuse in it. orange wire before the fuse then red wire after the fuse. and the red wire off of the alt. has a fussable link
