SteyrAUG eluded that all males 18-55 are given MG's (Sig 550)and are required to maintain their skills, military and civilian is this true?  Is Switzerland in the EU?  I thought you weren't allowed in the EU if civilian gun ownership was common?  Also I heard they have the lowest burglary and Murder rates in Europe is this true, if so how about violent crime in general?  Is their model aqpplicable here?  Are the gun laws their restrictive at all?

Yep, Switzerland is the country with the huge militia-style army, not Sweden. Heck, Sweden is so damned lefty that I am suprised their active-duty troops get guns these days...

It's 'alluded' - and it isn't 'civilian' ownership. They are all technically Militia / Reserves. The rest is all long-standing info. LInks shouldn't be hard for you to google.

The past few weeks I've actually entertained thoughts of moving to Switzerland and applying for citizenship in due time.
Alas, I dont think that dream will come to fruitation. Besides, if worse comes to worse, I'd sure hate to miss the opportunity to pop a Democrat or two.

Swiss crime simply can't be compared to most other countries anyway, due to the fact that immigration there is VERY, VERY controlled.  They are extremely reluctant to allow foreigners to have permanent residencies, and those few who do have to have a needed, advanced skill, and/or must have a whole lot of money in the bank (half-mil or more), to even be considered.  And this has been the case for generations, so there are almost zero race problems, and not many class-warfare problems.  Due to the relative wealth of the country, it's small size and small, homogeneous population, and its combination of capitalism and socialism, there is very little crime.

The fact that shooting guns is basically the national sport, and that military full-auto weapons are kept at home by reservists, is largely irrelevant.

All true.

It's relevant, in so much as it disproves the "guns cause crime" mantra that some want everyone to believe.

Responsible gun owners, are just that responsible.
