I have no need for one, and frankly no place to shoot one.  I akready have a gun that recoils like a 12 guarge shooting slugs - it's my 870.

If they were threatenting to outlaw them they they did in the PRK I'd go out and buy one right away.  Would take out a loan if I had to.

As a poor college student I am hard pressed to feed my .22LR's, let alone a .50BMG.

Someday tho. . .

I have one...

.... .50 Cal Flintlock muzzleloader....

ETA:

I wouldn't want a .50 BMG rifle now anyway...  Too much $$, too expensive to shoot, and I have no where close to me where I could 'stretch it's legs'.   Shooting a .50 at 100-200 yards would get boring real quick.

Plus, I already have a rifle that can get me to 1000 yards easily... and it's 130 year old design does it just fine.

I'd like one too...  where can I go to shoot it?

I have a 50 BMG upper for my ar15.

Its a cheaper way to go than a full rifle and since its an upper its not considered a rifle and can be sent through the mail, or bought with no FFL.

Go here for pics Click on the 50 BMG cartridge

Hurry and look before my bandwith get blasted.

Then in theory someone in california could have registered multiple fab10 lowers as .50 cals and got uppers later in .50BMG?

The ferret is what I am looking at getting for my .50 cal needs.

If you mean .50 BMG rifles, I've got one.  Bought it in May '03 just before the present ban got defeated.  In '04 it got crammed through with no public input or debate.

Better check with the state law and see what they define a 50 BMG rifle as.

If its like anything else in that state, its probably illegal to have anything that can even hold a 50 BMG round.

They've defined the .50 BMG round based on its exact physical dimension specs.  Which is pretty lame since all you'd have to do to get around it is push back your case shoulder by some small amount, and short-chamber a rifle by the same so that it won't chamber a .50 BMG round.

FYI, here is the official Caliban legislative information site.  It's not always up to date on the status of bills, otherwise it's very useful.

If I were living in Kalifornia, would my 510 wells express be banned as well? Is the ban strictly for the 50 BMG or is it by bore diamater?

As long as it's not a federal destructive device it would not be banned.  The ban is very specifically .50 BMG defined with case and loaded round measurements in thousandths of an inch.

California's definition of destructive device includes guns that fire fixed ammunition over .55 inches in diameter, but even that has a sporting purpose exception for things like .600 NE.

There are more in civilian hands than in the hands of the military. For now at least. Barrett has a contract for close to 2500 M107's to be completed in the next 4 years.

The serial number range is close to the 10,000 range just from Barrett. You can add in the other manufacterers to the total.

+1

Actually, I got my Windrunner in '03 during the first talks of the ban.  But at the last minute I got a Ferret receiver and a Serbu universal to be made into the semi when he's ready (or when I save enough money.)
