As I was pointing out before, the abortion issue has been made into a vivid side-show to distract people from the real issues, such as the socialism that our country is adopting.  And abortion is merely a symptom; unwanted pregancy is the PROBLEM, and neither camp is at all interested in reducing the PROBLEM, as then they don't have an issue to gain power from.

The problem is unwanted pregnancy.  Why does that happen?

- Parents have few if any morals to teach their children.
- Parents have morals, but fail to pass them down to their children.
- Parents deceive themselves into believing that their children won't have sex until their 22nd birthday.  In reality, girls having babies at 15 is increadibly common, and it isn't even unusual for 11 and 12 year olds to have babies.
- Parents fail to supervise their children, which leads to the children having sex as "something to do".
- Supervised, out-of-home activities have been systematically shut down instead of managed, leaving kids hours of free time to try to fill.
- There remains a large stigma against birth control, some of it inspired by religion (looking to generate more followers of it's own faith), that keeps many sexually-active teens from using it.
- The "Morning After" pill, a pill that prevents *conception* (not to be confused with RU486, an abortion pill), is discouraged by the "big" camps because it's a threat to their power base.

But, you see, the above problems are difficult to deal with, so instead of dealing with them, both camps are trying to legislate their own agenda onto the rest of us.  Neither side is fighting for freedom or liberty, though many on both sides believe that they are.

If we were to address the above issues, we could shrink the number of abortions down to a level that they would be politically insignificant.  Which is the last thing most people want, sadly.

I know what you mean, but right now, BOTH sides are content to allow abortions simply to retain their political power.  I don't like abortions, and I do what little I personally can in various ways to prevent the necessity of having to even consider them, but I don't believe that it is the federal government's business to decide this matter.

In fact, this is the only issue that I don't think *can* be decided, [b]but that's not even what's really important.  The unwanted pregnancies ARE.[/b]

If I was a moderator on this site.....I would delete this thread the minute I saw it. This has to be one of the MOST divisive issues that keeps showing up on the gun boards. It is (in my own small opinion) rediculous to continually bring up an issue that just turns into a strong willed screaming match. Do y'all just LIKE to argue? I just don't get it.

Troy - agreed - I was just taking notice of some of your unfortunately correct points.

We should be able to discuss anything, hopefully at a level that isn't offensive to anyone.  As I don't think any of us personally perform them, nor request them, we should be able to discuss the issue without personal attacks of any kind.  Note I said *should*.

I know you are offended by the act of abortion, and I respect that, but posting pictures is equally offensive.  If you want to make a point, you can do so with a link, and those who wish to look can do so.

As I said, I'm not sure this one issue has a political resolution, as there are very conflicting circumstances at work.  But don't lose sight that the BEST solution is to make them unnecessary, which requires NO new laws or government involvement.

Unless this turns into a name calling cyber slug fest or people start attacking people personally I see no reason to lock or delete it. The abortion debate was going on long before AR15.com came along and will be going on for along time to come. Deleting this thread won't solve the issue.
