i went to the concert last night at MSG. it was great, they played lots of old stuff - the songs that were meaningfull, political and PRO freedom.

THEN...

U2 is famous for their use of huge TV screens at their shows, last night, at the beginning of the encore was no exception. BUT, i looked up and saw Charlton Heston on the screens, and they played his comments and spelled them out on the screens - "a gun in the hands of responsible people is NOT a dangerous thing" "guns are safe when used safely by safety minded individuals" the croud fell silent - i too was waiting to see where this was going. I WAS HORRIFIED TO SEE THAT THE LAST FRAME ON THE SCREEN, THE ONE THEY FROZE FOR ALL TO SEE, WAS A BABY PICKING UP A GUN AND LOOKING AT IT.

is this their idea of an anti statement??? how appropriate to show children in danger to make a point. needless to say, i walked RIGHT OUT!!! i then walked towards a camera crew, and they interviewed me. i voiced my dissent as best i could, they asked my name, and asked if they could show the interview on MTV !! keep an eye open folks, they may show it today, tom. or next week! (BTW i'm skinny with black glasses) i made it clear that all U2 did was show the world a sickening display in IRRISPONSIBLE PARENTING. man, i am heart-broken, this band used to be PRO freedom, now they seem awfully PRO UN!!

I wasn't there but I heard that their anti-gun statement backfired in Philly as people cheered when Charlton Heston was pictured. Don't know what happened when the baby sceen was shown.

The same thing happened to me.  I saw them on the 9th in Boston.

I loved the concert and then they showed Heston and as I read that my blood started to BOIL.  I looked over and saw many fans booing Heston and I has just getting so pissed!

My finace could tell I was getting mad and tried to calm me down.  Since this was her birthday present I did not want to make a seen.  She made the point that I needed to remember where they are from.

I was pissed at U2 for ruining a great concert and putting me in that position.

I was going to buy there new cd, then I heard about all this anti-NRA crapp.  Really pissed me off.  Oh well, I took the 15$ I would have spent on their cd, added 20 to it, and renewed my NRA membership.

Yeah but what is up with then doing the soundtrack for the new tomb raider movie/video?

I think that is what it is beacuse I can't stand to have it on that long as I'm channel surfing!

Doesn't that movie use/potray guns, guess if it profits them it is OK?

The thing that pisses me off the most, is when one Constitutional Right is used to help DESTROY another.

I am very sorry. I try not to be negative, or use bad words excessively..........

FUCK THEM ASSHOLES!!!!!

I apologize to everyone that may be offended by my rantings, but that is how I feel!!

after 15 years of "revolution" music, their PRO-IRA stance and lyrics that until recently worked FOR the cause of freedoms, i expected something VERY different!

Now that I think back on that video I remember some interesting things.

The crowd was more or less confused by the video.  I think they were expecting a ridiculous quote from Heston and they did not get it.  I thought it was an excellent quote.

Some people were booing Heston just to boo him but the rest of the crowd didn't know what to do.

You could tell they wanted to do what U2 wanted, they just weren't sure what that was.

The part about the little kid pulling the gun from a little shopping bag was what pissed me off.  Who leaves the pistol in the middle of the room, on the floor, in a little girly pink shopping bag.  Who does that?

And if you really think about it that goes right along with what Heston said, that the guns in the hands of a bad person is a bad thing.

Thanks for doing the right thing and walking out and being candid when asked why. Sadly, I don`t expect you`ll make it onto MTV or any other station for that matter, as none of the socialists will be willing to provide any air time to pro-firearms statements. Good luck, just the same and thanks again.

I don't like it when rock groups mix music and religion.  I hate it when U2 claims that Roman Catholics have a duty to buy their music, because it is "inspired by God."  Can you imagine the reaction if some gospel group in the US said that protestants had the duty to buy their music?  I started seriously disliking U2 when my Methodist church bought a load of their devotional books around 1990.  The books contained articles that where supposedly written by members of the band, and even it included advertisements for BMG (of the "10 albums for $1 plus your leg" type).  I didn't like having the minister at my church quote Bono from the pulpit.  I liked it less when my church contributed to a fund to help those teenagers, who couldn't afford it, with transportation and tickets to a U2 show.

Ever notice how individuals who "wear their religion on their sleeves," like the members of U2, are the most likely to not be religious?  There are those who do, and those who talk.

ha ha ha, check out www.jumptheshark.com
It's a web site dedicated to people/shows/groups and the moment they start to suck. In the musician catagory one of the defining moments is when a singer or band takes up a cause.

Those f*ck nuts have sucked for over 10 years. If I wanted to see gray haired old farts acting like kids I'd stand in front of the mirror and caress my Stratocaster.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of surveilling them around the Vegas downtown casinos around 88 or 89 (don't remember just when). They were dipshits to watch, and the only girls that gave them a look was the uglies that are hired to promote pass out coupons. They acted like assholes from the get go. I didn't like them then, and Now I'm certain I don't like them. They could be classified as prime euro-trash.

Keep in mind that most of the musicians, or entertainers who take up some politically correct cause (one that just so happens to be a really hot topic right now....hmmm) do it as a gimmick to impress all their tree hugging hippie fans, and dont know jack shit about it.
Remember several years ago when U2's big political statement was about the oppression of their Irish countrymen?... Sunday Bloody Sunday! and all that...They figured out that Americans as a whole don't really give a shit whats going on over there, unless they are Irish. (dont get me wrong,..Im not trying to put down the Irish)
Although they may resent it,...any foreign band will tell you, "If you wanna be big, you gotta be big in America". So they have taken up a cause that is big with American "sheeple".
Ill take my entertainment without any politics please![puke]
