According to the report, Lorek said he saw Berkin pull the trigger and the gun fired, because "there must have been a bullet in the chamber."

That will do wonders for his career- I bet he never hears the end of this- that guy should retire.

Those through the calf of the leg the long way wounds are pretty nasty due to the likelyhood of infection of such a deep wound.  I worked with a guy once who had an AD with a .22.  It went through his calf, same as the Fibby, and he nearly lost his leg.

... before disassembling his weapon... told police that it's necessary to pull the trigger on the pistol to release its slide mechanism.

Bet this wouldn't have happened if they had stayed with Sigs.   [:D]

Under our Nation's Zero Tolerance policies, Agent Numbnutts should be prosecuted for the attempted murder of a federal agent. Or maybe he should sue. Damn, it's so confusing when right and wrong are blurred. Maybe he should get a medal and a promotion for discovering inadequicies in FBI training and equipment.

I am not a terribly big fan of the Glocks, but these cops and feds need to stop shooting themselves in the legs with them. Their idiocy has been giving the gun a bad rap for years now and they show no sign of letting up. Enough already!

One of my Army friends did a similar thing with his glock. He was starting to dis-assemble it while talking on the phone. But the barrel to the meat of his left hand ..... and put a nice hole through it. You know what his after-hours job was? Firearms safety instructor. Lucky for him, he only shot himself and not one of his daughters in the next room.
Safety first!

If I am not mistaken, does not all manuals have the same red warning about disassembling a firearm.  Make sure weapon is cleared prior to disassembling.  I guess he did not read the manual.

Not trying to flame ya here, well okay maybe I am.

Being a Glock fan I gotta ask, "Do you ever point your Sig at your thigh and pull the trigger?"

Couldn't resist

With a Sig you don't have to.  Apparently there is some kind of requirement with a Glock, because this seems to happen a lot.  I'm with you Archangel.

There is only ONE safety that is effective 100% of the time.

That safety is located between one's ears.

If that safety is not "switched on" - then NO mechanical safety is worth a dang!

If it IS "switched on" - then lack of a mechanical safety presents no harm.

cheers
