We have a bunch of borderline communists in office who see America as a "Citizen of a Global Community", and who want to see the government tackle the sticky problem of economic equality (interestingly enough, they claim they aren't socialists).
That, combined with gun control, have cost the Democrats dearly over the last 10 years.
We've watched with glee as the Democrats decided they needed to swing hard left and capture their core again, which simply marked them as the clear enemy for a lot of people who might have voted for them. It also cast enough doubt in the minds of many who then decided to refrain from voting altogether.
This third consecutive defeat may spur the soul searching necessary for the Democrats to look for a modicum of sanity in their beliefs. That means they won't be as much of a threat, but it also means they will stop marginalizing themselves with their own beliefs and behavior.
Will we see the Democrats finding the ability to connect with the average American? What will the response of the Right be?

It's not the economy stupid, it is the moral values.

Actually we just scraped by, and I attribute our victory to the anti-Gay marriage ammendments.

dont think it will happen,almost all sensible and moderate democrats there are in this country have switched parties.In order to energize there base they have to run on there core beliefs,gun control,redistribution of wealth,the distruction of our sovernty,abortion on demand always,acceptance of homo and pedophile lifestyles etc.I dont pretend to know what the future holds for our country,but I do know that the hard left acting in what would be the best intrests of the USA aint gonna happen

I'm pretty sure they're going to try swinging to the left.

If they do I think the next election could be thier last, and we'd see either the Greens or the Libertarians take up the slack...

I believe the socialist/democrat core is at least a generation away from that realization. Once the self absorbed 60's radicals that INFEST the party that was once a great part of our country are demolished from within, people may drift back that way.

good point,hadnt thought of this.does seem likely that the democrat party may split along the many colalitions that make it up.the socalist may realize that the gays and baby killing lobby is holding them back from destroying capitalizm,or visa versa.

It might get interesting if a Democrat with an "A" rating from the NRA (yes they do exist and are probably as hard to come by as an LE6920 at the moment) were tapped to run for POTUS.

How might the election have gone if sKerry had had a solid 20-year RKBA record and an NRA "A" rating? Sportsmen in Ohio and a few other states would certainly have flipped it. IMHO

They are too far left to ever come back. They are so segmented they now have to be on every side of every issue in order to please their base. ( Whatever that is)

Polosi moved them farther to the left when Gore lost, look for more of the same now. They will eventually implode from within. We are witnessing history...the end of the democratic party.

problem is though that no one like that would survive the democrat primary process.had zell miller ran against bush,he would have still lost as much as I like zell.the democrat hard left base would have stayed home cause it wouldnt have been any choice for them,and the people that always vote republican would have elected bush.IMHO the hard left felt betrayed by bill clinton over welfare reform,and the fact that gore couldnt beat bush the first time.after 2000 and 2002 look at the people they put in leadership after loosing.they felt they lost cause they wernt left of center enough.would not shock me to see one of the more liberal senators get minority leadership.

I'm not so sure it isn't institutionalized by now. Teacher's unions, government worker's unions and trade unions. They're still trying to sell the same utopian non-sense, mostly as progressive (read elite) thinking. Bush won, we have a little more breathing room in the Senate and House but no real mandate domestically. Will dems work to really solve a social issue or will they demagogue it and ask for the moon (taxes) to make it happen as per ususal? I guess we'll just have to wait and see but I see pretty much the same battle with the nanny-staters that government can fix what ails you. When you see the leaders like McAuliffe, Pelosi, Kennedy, Feinstein, and JJ sent out to pasture maybe you'll get a new energy in their party. Until then they will sulk in defeat but still retain power in their party. Think old dogs learn new tricks?

this is along the line I am thinking too,just kind of wondering what will replace it,and if in the future this will be the start of the second US civil war.
