Make a photocopy of the note and complain to the chancellor - would you have been excused from class if you had decided not to show if Kerry had won?

No I didn't leave a note, I'll make sure to rub it in monday though

Also, this is a state school and this teacher was a HUGE Kerry fan. Still, he's a good teacher in his field (psy) and wouldn't necessarily like to see him fired.

He wouldn't be fired for something like this (in fact, if he has tenure, he can't be fired) - but having the chancellor (or the head/dean of psychology) tell him to keep his personal politics OUT of the classroom certainly couln't hurt.

It's very inappropriate, and there should be some consequence.

Agreed.

But, to me, it's not a liberal/conservative issue even. I'd be just as outraged if Kerry had won, and a conservative professor cancelled class because of the "tragic Kerry vistory"

Either way, it's just wrong from professors to bring their personal politics into the classroom (with the possible exception of political science classes, where maybe it helps discussion or something).
