what were the Vote counts in 92 and 96?? anyone have a source?

IIRC, it was something like 48% for the first term, and 49.5% or so the second.
EDITED: I was right about the second one (Well, close, 49.23%), but the first term was only 43%! Ross Perot got 19%. |

Are you sure about these numbers? I found: 1996: Clinton: 47,401,898 Dole: 39,198,482 Perot: 8,085,373 1992: Clinton:44,909,326 Bush:39,103,882 Perot:19,741,657 Are these not popular vote wins? |

thats quite a misleading statement since he got a higher vote total than either of the other candidates. He won the popular and the electoral votes in both of his elections. Those 2 elections were the only ones in living memory with a viable 3rd party candidate. Perot got 18.9% in 92 and 8.4% in 96. Clinton beat Bush and Gore by a large margin of the popular vote each time. Neither election was as close as this one has been. lies, damn lies, and statistics |

Its not technically a lie since Clinton got 43% in 92 and 49.2% in 96. So he didn't get a majority of all the votes. Its a very misleading statement :P |

A popular vote win is not necessarily a majority. Clinton NEVER got 50% of the vote and therefore NEVER won a majority. He only ever won a plurality. |

"Plurality" of the votes is what is meant, i.e. the all-important "mandate".

Clinton had a PLURALITY. not a MAJORITY. there is a difference.
