I used to have my 20" Bushmaster set up with the aluminum free floating handguard and hated it. Just didn't feel right to me, and my M4gery would out shoot it every time. Well, I removed the one piece handguard/barrel nut and replaced it with Colt A2 handguards and all the little necessary parts from Rock River Arms. Also swapped out the front sight base for RRA's gas block with weaver rail. The only specialized tool needed was an armorer's wrench that I borrowed from my local gunstore. Actually, did the barrel re-install right there on the store floor.  It was so easy to do everything. Man, I love this set up! Groups are five shots at 100 yds. Each square is one inch (a little under actually). 52gr Sierra bullets w/ 22gr of H322 powder, magnum primers. What do you think?

You could probably do even better with a
mechanical rest. [:)]

You know what, I bet you could do even better than that with a mechanical shooter! Thats right buy a robot to shoot your groups for you and completely take the human factor out of it!

I bet my robot can shoot better than your robot...

How did you remove the old handguard?  I want to do almost exactly the same thing with my 16" VMATCH...

After removing the front sight base and gas tube, the v-match handguard unscrews with your bare hands. It's a one piece that has the barrel retaining nut built in. Couldn't be easier.

Thanks for the nice reply's. Hangfire, you need a new monitor.

How far from the lands are you seating the bullets and what are your COL?  Nice shooting.

Dmuldrew- I tried seating the bullets out before but didn't see any real accuracy advantages in doing so, and single loading is a pain in the butt. This ammo is seating just deep enough to clear the magazine body without hanging up.

BTW- Speaking of hanging up. No failures of any kind since the modification. That's about 400 rounds now. The AR has about 700 total with a few failures before the mod's. Bolt closes very cleanly on an empty chamber. Before I could feel a very slight bit of resistance at lock up.
