Is there such an animal?

I've used Kazaa in the past, but it jacked my computer up something fierce to the point that I had to reformat to make things right.

Suggestions?

There is not such thing as Safe File sharing programs period.

WinMX, Kazza and other to many to list here are such a pain in the ass let alone the bandwidth hugs they are.

You have no idea the problems peer 2 peer file sharing has caused for network admins.

Don't forget this program is indexing the content of your hardrive then sharing that with world.  Then it allows for remote downloading, and uploading.  Plus people are just now figuring out how to exploit these programs and turn your computer into a zombie.

Define 'safe'.

If you mean safe from the law, any of them can be, depending on what files you download. Though, Bittorrent is the least secure, since you MUST upload. In all the rest, you can simply not share. But that trick will stop working eventually. You are never fully safe. Even if you don't upload, you can't be sure you're not downloading from a computer that will log all your information. The safest way is not to use it.

If you mean safe from spyware, then you have plenty of options. Look around, almost all of the popular FS networks have safe and free alternative programs out there.
