Daschle Takes Thune To Court

A federal judge has partially granted Democratic US Senator Tom Daschle's request to limit the activities of Republican poll watchers/observers.

Daschle had claimed his opponent and the GOP in South Dakota intimidated American Indian voters in Lake Andes. The decision came down early Tuesday morning from US District Judge Lawrence Piersol. It applies only to voters in Charles Mix County.

As part of the ruling, Republican poll watchers in the county are prohibited from following American Indian voters out of polling places. They are also prohibited from taking down the license plate numbers of American Indians' vehicles.

In his ruling, Judge Piersol says there clearly would be a (quote) "irreparable" damage to Daschle. Daschle took his Republican opponent, the South Dakota Republican Party and GOP election observers to court late Monday.

He is seeking his fourth term against Republican John Thune.

A better question, IMO, is why are they following people out and writing down the license plate numbers?  That's bullshit, IMO.  Win fair--we're not DemocRATS.

If this is wee olde South Dakota, I can't begin to imagine the hell breaking loose on a "very close" national election.

A better question, IMO, is why are they following people out and writing down the license plate numbers?  That's bullshit, IMO.  Win fair--we're not DemocRATS.   Sorry TBK1, I have to disagree with you on this one.  The license plate is in plain view on public property.  They obviously used that vehicle to get there over public roads.  I don't like the fact that people are taking license plate numbers either, but I think the judge overstepped his authority for political, not legal reasons.  If you drove to the mall, a public school or government facility and parked your car, anyone could take down the number for any purpose.  Why should it be different here?

Yup, I posted in a hasty fashion.  As I am painfully honest about such things, I ASSumed it was a case of voter intimidation and never considered the possibility of this:
