I know that both National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System are shills and lap-dogs for the liberals, but help me respond to this crap that was forwarded to me by one of my liberal friends. I cannot sponsor public (tax dollar) support for two broadcasting agencies that are supposed to be non-partisan but everyone knows that both NPR and PBS are left-leaning.

What are some facts that I can answer this with?

PBS, NPR and the arts are facing major cutbacks in funding. In spite of the efforts of each station to reduce spending costs and streamline their services, some government officials believe that the funding currently going to these programs is too large a portion of funding for something which is seen as not worthwhile. The only way that our representatives can be aware of the base of support for PBS and funding for these types of programs is by making our voices heard. Please add your name to this list and forward it to friends who believe in what this stands for. This list will be forwarded to the President and the Vice President of the United States. I monitor NPR almost daily. they get very limited funding from the Feds anymore. They get most of their funding from donors and ads from business donors.

I am sure if you went to the NPR website, they would show you how little of their funding comes from the goverment. (www.npr.org)

I do not have cable, so I watch the various news shows on PBS regularly.  Compared to CBS/NBC/ABC they are very balanced.  They were the only ones to go into how Kerry is visiting churches and telling them how to vote.  If Bush did such a thing the regular media would go berserk.

I fully support PBS.  

As long as these lefty dweebs get a nickel of tax money, you're contributing member - at gunpoint.

NPR and PBS are outlets for a brand of mushy-headed liberalism even more overt than that served up by the commercial media. Not that a radio station that runs spots all day saying "This segment of 'Stealing From Working Folks' made possible by the generosity of Dave's Upscale Air Mattresses; Floating your fat liberal ass around the pool in bourgeois comfort while you wallow in false sympathy with proletarian revolutionaries the world over. It's a commercial station that supplements its lousy ad sales (understandably so - how many fresh-baked brie kiosks are there outside New York and San Francisco depending on TV and radio ads to find customers?) with mendacious begging.

With the growth of cable TV and the internet, they offer nothing that isn't available in better quality commercially, other than a venue for Bill Moyers to peddle his atheistic pseudo-Methodist tripe to gullible post-Christian chowderheads. For pete's sake, the local PBS station periodically runs hours-long infomercials with book tie-ins for Gary Null, Suze Orman, and Steven Covey (or a Steven Covey look-alike huckster) with book and product tie-ins to what is presented as a serious lecture. Let 'em sell enough overt, identified ads to survive without tax money, or sell their licenses to the highest bidder and burn the buildings down with the staff's Che Guavera, Yassir Arafat, and George McGovern posters inside.

My PBS has a SciFi Saturday,  Dr. Who, Reddwarf are the weekly showing.

I contribute $5 a year to my PBS station.  

My public radio station plays classical during the day, and NPR Socialist propaganda at night.  


I don't listen to it very often, but when I do, it is usually some commie BS that involves more government programs, higher taxes, and banning guns.  Pull the damn plug already.

The local NPR is 100% lefty prattle from 5AM to about 8PM. When Saddam was captured, the national NPR news people sounded like they were reporting that our president had been captured by the other side. The "human interest" stories are usually celebrations of Kwanzaa, La Raza, noble uninsured folk facing the struggle for gender reassignment surgery on a budget, crunchy whole-grain dorks whining about somebody making a buck off woods he owns or leases and which the cwgd have never visited, or they even-handedly explore the rumored connections among the Crossman air rifle company, George Bush, and the Order. Based on what I hear, I'd have to say what you heard is an anomaly.

Do you seriously think that Click & Clack or Prairie Home Companion would take even a week to get fully sponsored? If NPR disappeared tomorrow, they'd both be on the air with new episodes this weekend. Public Broadcasting is a sham charity with a blatant but unacknowledged social and plitical agenda.
