I know they are on vacation till WED so I quietly go investigate. Front is clear except for a car I've haven't seen before. I do a quick check on the car and note the plate and make. I very quietly head towards the rear of the house with the Glock in one hand and the Surefire in the other.
I see 2 morons trying to break-in from the back door. After I determine that no one else is around, I light them up with my M6 Surefire and the light on the glock. I tell them to halt, First guy runs like hell and I'm in no mood to chase anyone. He gets in the car and takes off but I already got the plate number(probably stolen). The 2nd guy approaches me with the crow bar thinking all I have is a flashlight. I fire a warning shot and tell him the next fucker won't miss. At this point the badguy is face down, spreadeagle and shaking like a motherfucker and pissed his pants. Amazing what a M6 laser light combo and a bright ass M6 will do. In less than a minute the corner neighbor sheriff shows up with his shotgun and tells me to holster my weapon. I'm so freakin nervous it takes me a few times to holster it.
The guy get frisked by the deputy and they find a POS .380 on him. The county deputy hauled hs ass away . He checked my weapon to make sure it was legal and he said good job. Sheriff says that this guy is a suspected in other robberies in the county. Helped him out with some paper work and getaway car details and I'm still shaking like a mother and I'm too hopped up on adrenaline!!!

How far was the guy from you? If he is less than 21' with an edged or impact weapon, he is a potential deadly threat. Since you already told him to stop, advancing on you is a serious indicator that he has "intent"..................

All of us would hate that warning shot to come down and hit another person, or cause property damage.

Also maybe should have called 911, or the neighborhood Deputy prior to trying to approach.

Among other things, if you go out there, alone, with 2 of them, you are at a serious tactical disadvantage.

good job man, hindsight is always 20/20 but the warning shot would have been better into the ground than the air.

edit (man, I'm editing every post tonight!):

As for the warning shot, I have been taught that a "warning shot" should virtually *never* be fired.  Once a gun is fired, folks tend to get nervous (ala the wet pants).  When folks get nervous, who knows what they will do.  If person #1 is armed with anything and person #2 fires a "warning shot", it is quite plausible that person #1 gets a message of "I'm about to die".  Lots of folks (me included) might chose to attack - hit or not - after hearing a report and seeing a muzzle flash.  Very easy for a battle to the death to ensue.  First "bang" should be COM, quickly followed by another COM shot.

That being said, you *do not* want to shoot anybody if it can be avoided.  Few things can cause more headaches - legal, mental, ect.

You did well.

What light were you using on your Glock?  Did the use of both the handheld light and the weapon light help?  If only one light would have been adequate, which one would you rather have?

Good job!

I agree on the warning shot thing.  If he was within 21 feet, had a weapon of some sort that could cause great harm/death and continued to advance after you told him to halt you'd be within your rights to shoot the fucker in most places.

I personally would have him sighted in after failed to halt after the warning.  If he was stupid enough to continue advancing with a weapon pointed at him.....

First guy split, no questions asked but the dude with the crow bar didn't run towards me but started to move toward me. As soon as the warning shot went off he dropped the crow bar. As far as someone getting hurt from the bullet, maybe a cow or goat.
I was using the Glock because I am more accustomed to it at this time plus I had 15 chances of hitting the guy

I am not normally an advocate of "warning shots" no matter where they are fired....However in this situation, (where the perp could not see that you had a weapon) the warning shot saved you from having to take a life tonight...even if it were justified.

i think you did good...only things that could have gone better was maybe a call to the Po Po BEFORE you went to check....

and maybe the warning shot into a suitable backstop, such as grass....

HOWEVER, expecting a situation like this to go down "textbook" is a tall order, and i think that, given the circumstances, you demonstrated resolve, restraint...and acted admirably.

have a beer, and hit the hay...good on ya mate.
