I have been using Ad-Aware for about a year now and upgraded whenever it is available.  It has been running slower and slower. 45 minutes this time.  Has anyone else been having trouble like this?

Thanks.

I use AdAware 6.0 and have no problems with it. Is this what you're talking about?

I use adaware AND spybot.  One will pick up crap the other misses.

Either one only takes a few minutes to run.

I got the latest version and it is WAY faster than 6.0 for me.  Been using it for about a year, maybe a little more.  Good product.

I run spybot first or Ad-Aware wont run at all.  Something is wrong here.

I run ad-aware and spybot both on startup. They're both good.

45 minutes for ad-aware seems like a lot of time.

I started using it last week and it does take about 30 minutes to go through my hard drive.

While I can't tell you what the problem might be, I am fairly confident you might have a larger underlying problem if it is taking you 45m to run it, and also if it matter which you run first between Ad-Aware and Spybot.  I just ran Ad-Aware (latest version) and it took me 40 seconds.  It *could* matter if you have some severely fragmented files / system registry.  Honestly, though, it's hard to say w/o actually looking into things.

Are you also running an anti-virus program?

Some might interfear with the spyware removers.

YMMV

I use Ad-aware and spybot also.  Excellent products.  I could not get an update from them, so I went to their website.  I had to upgrade to the "SE" program.  It picked up all kinds of crap the old one did not.

Seems to work well....very similar to the old 6.0

You most likely have a problem with the AAW-SE installation.

The same thing happened to me, it used to take 30-45 minutes to run a scan.
My computer went into super slo-mo with SE for some reason, but first it ran fine for about a month.

If you haven't already done so, Uninstall the program, reboot, then reinstall.
Even though SE worked fine for me after I did this, I went back to AAW-6.

Try this online scan.  It has found things that my virus scan(Norton) and firewall (Zone Alarm) didn't pick up.  It is free and does a good job.

I have used AdAware and still do on occasion.  However I now use SpywareBlaster as well.  It stops the spyware from ever being installed so no scan is necessary.  Saves time and works very well for me.  It's freeware just like Spybots.  You might want to give it a try (follow the link below, which has the latest downloads for AdAware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster and others).  Surf safe.

When I run AdAware,  it usually takes about 3 or 4 minutes to do its thing and it's done.

I also use both, and they do only take a few minutes.  Lately, though, I run it everyday and am getting more and more popups, etc., even after I have run those two.  I'm getting popups about having registry problems, etc.  Last one said I had over 500 registry errors and that I needed to fix them.  For only $30 I could have them clean up all the errors!!!  I must have done something wrong because even adaware and spybot will not get rid of this!!!

ETA--my computer does not seem to run any slower, so I'm not too sure that I have a problem or not.  (Just some annoying popups).

Use it.  My MMX cpu is WAY WAY faster using it than my older P4

Same here. I'm using a new computer at work. First thing I did was install adaware. It found over 100 items the previous anti-spybot program missed.

I've got the current version, on "Smart Scan" it takes about 2 minutes to run.

If you haven't tried it lately, try it again, the old version was way out of date, if you haven't gotten a new version in about 6 months, they have really improved it!!
