I stop at the gas station on my way to pick up my kid.
While I'm pumping- a kid runs thru being chased by three others.
They grab the kid and take him away.
One of the kids, dressed like Rambo has a small revolver in his hand.
They put the kid on the ground, the gunman walks back by where I am;
I asked him what he's doing with the gun.
He tells me to mind my own business.
For the quick ride to get my son..I left my .45 home.
As they all start to walk away I call 911 on my cell.
What a waste of time that was.
Another patron of the statiion followed them- He returned and told me that he thought it was a prank-
a stupid one at that.
I know that if I'd of had my gun it would have been in my had...I shudder at how things might have ended for me and Rambo prankster.
I told 911 that I would wait ten minutes for the cops; I waited,  they never came. I'd have pressed charges.
On the way back two police cars were there.
I stopped and told them what happened.
They said it was not the first time tonight that they had had the same call.
I asked the officer to give the kid an ear-full about people like me- who would shoot people who point weapons at them.
I don't want to be involved in a stupid tragedy.
If this would have been the real deal- I'd have been un-armed; that is 'nt going to happen again for a while.

If it came down to it...would you have shot them?

If it was a prank and you were armed, I'm certain you would've gained full compliance.

point a gun at me..find out how well I place when firing at the center of mass.

Moral of the story, even if you didn't need it this time, don't leave your self defense carry at home even for short trips

As my Dad taught me; never pull a gun on another man to scare him, he might call you're bluff.  I was taught to only pull a gun out when you've made the decision to shoot, when all other options have been eliminated.

They were in their late teens.
A mixed group.
Rambo was hispanic.
The one they hauled away was white, grey  hoody, black back-pack.
Number three was hispanic.
Two who I'm not sure of their involvement were asian.

I knew where my kid was.
He was at his friends house with four friends.
His friends parents were home.

You think Rambo's  parents knew where he was, who he was with, what they were doing?

I never get the memo indicating when I am going to get into a gunfight. C'mon, the LEAST bad guys can do is CC me the friggin memo. It makes going to get my kid a real pain in the rear. I mean...that gun is heavy...and it wears out the fabric in my car.

No I'm not a cop.
I  have no knight in shining armor fantasy.

I'm pissed that I left myself vunerable.

I'm pissed that I was placed in a comprimising  situation.

The next guy they do that to- might do something he'd regret.

Consider it a practice drill in 2 respects:
1. Carrry Carry Carry - next time it could be real
2. Know that if you ever think it's real, use utmost caution in firing - it could be a prank.


The best example from my CCW class was a real case where a cop busted in and saw bloody man on top of woman. Looked like man was strangling woman. Cop shoots man in back, killing him.

Turns out that the 911 was called by the man. The woman was the perp. and was stabbing the husband in the chest. He rolled over on top of her, trying to get the knife away from her.

Basically, cop shot the victim (or rather, finished off what the lady perp started).

This is why, I think the best CCW practice is the use of role-playing as part of video-based scenario (you shoot at a big piece of paper which has the video image displayed on it). It will make you really adept in the real-life type of thing you encountered.

There would have been NO QUESTION in my mind!  Someone points a gun at me, I figure it's him or me.  If I'm going down, I'm taking him with me!

A big plus one for that!  It has been said here many times already, but always carry your weapon.  I shudder for what might have happened to you if this had been the real deal.  Keep safe and keep your cool.

S 35.15 Justification; use of physical force in defense of a person.  1. A person may, subject to the provisions of subdivision two, use physical force upon another person when and to the extent he reasonably believes such to be necessary to defend himself or a third person from what he reasonably believes to be the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by such other person, unless:  (a) The latter`s conduct was provoked by the actor himself with intent to cause physical injury to another person; or  (b) The actor was the initial aggressor; except that in such case his use of physical force is nevertheless justifiable if he has withdrawn from the encounter and effectively communicated such withdrawal to such other person but the latter persists in continuing the incident by the use or threatened imminent use of unlawful physical force; or  (c) The physical force involved is the product of a combat by agreement not specifically authorized by law.  2. A person may not use deadly physical force upon another person under circumstances specified in subdivision one unless:  (a) He reasonably believes that such other person is using or about to use deadly physical force. Even in such case, however, the actor may not use deadly physical force if he knows that he can with complete safety as to himself and others avoid the necessity of so doing by retreating; except that he is under no duty to retreat if he is:  (i) in his dwelling and not the initial aggressor; or  (ii) a police officer or peace officer or a person assisting a police officer or a peace officer at the latter`s direction, acting pursuant to section 35.30; or  (b) He reasonably believes that such other person is committing or attempting to commit a kidnapping, forcible rape, forcible sodomy or robbery; or  (c) He reasonably believes that such other person is committing or attempting to commit a burglary, and the circumstances are such that the use of deadly physical force is authorized by subdivision three of section 35.20.
