I got a big wall waiting for a family that I can like. And man is it dirty over there, if you have seen a film canister, it is very very tightly closed up with small brush like felt to keep dirt out, despite this I still find sand in them.

A guy I was stationed in Central America with had a brother who owner a photo shop. Every so often he would get a care package that always included copies of the more "interesting" photos that had been processed at the shop. Needless to say, we all looked forward to those care packages.

I've been working on photolabs for about a million years now, it seems like George Eastman brought me a Brownie to develop the film from,   the nudie stuff is only entertaining the first 5,000 times or so, by the second week on the job you don't even notice anymore.  

That and 99% of the nudie stuff is of the "OH GOD WHY DID I HAVE TO SEE THAT?!!!!!!!!!!" variety.

Worked at a local (not a chain) photolab while I was in school. We kept the risque file in the back. Constantly updated it.

We used to package our pics in clear plastic boxes and the practice was to put the best photo on the top of the stack for best customer impression, they usually opened the envelope while paying to check the pics. When the college kids brought their DIY porn pics, we'd put the nastiest one on top. More than once, I've seen a guy get slapped by his GF because she was unaware that he or whoever took the pic. Also got lots of PD crime scene and homocide photos along with University medical and psyop testing photos and slides. Lots of gory shit in those. Also did alot of pros 4x5 transparancies.

Man, that was the best part time job I ever had. We were next door to the best pizza place in town, after hours we'd go there and sit around with the pizza employees after they closed, eat damn good pizza and drink lots of beer, usually for free. Ahhh,the good old days......

I thought it would be hilarious to make some fake snuff pics, just to see the face of the clerk when I pick them up.

A professional lab will fire a person for making extra copies of customer work for personal use and will also shit can someone for just showing off customer work to other employees who wouldn't normally see it.

I've worked at a lab where all of the scrap minilab prints (the 4x6s etc) were collected and weighed to account for the difference between the number of prints sold daily versus the number actually made, and there had better not be a difference.  FYI- that was a lab with such policys as I mentioned above.

as mentioned before, hence the popularity of digital cameras. the only photos those lab pukes get to see of mine are the photography work I do (nature and architecture). Personal photos = digital only.

they make us count our waste prints instead of weighing them =/ We got over 3400 some by my estimate after looking in the bin for this month.

No, we printed everyones photos and they got them. Didn't matter what they were of. No doubt if we ran across child porn, we would have called the cops but we never saw anything like that. This was a private mom&pop lab, only use employees saw/shared the pics. They never left the property and after a few days or so they went to the shredder, probably never had more than 20 or so pics in the "file" at a given time. We took a great deal of care in printing and color balancing photos which resulted in alot of duplicates, keep in mind this was 20 years ago and the color processing wasn't as advanced as it is now. The operator had to read the negative and add or subtract color correction & density based on experience for each photo.

Alien: who ever does your photos sees them, period. Nothing you can do about it. They don't go into a machine on one end and come out in a bag on the other. Someone is printing looking at the negative while someone else is packaging examining the prints for quality, dust, color balance and density, shitty pics get reprinted , at least by a processor that cares about quality. The culled out photos get shredded. And if you have nude pics, hey they are going to get shown around the lab, just the facts regardless of policy. Don't like it, do your own processing or go digital.

Yes they do for legal purposes. Any child porn will get the cops called. I will give everyone here a tip: if you want racy photos developed, get them developed with the overnight developement, you will have less problems.

I work at Walgreens.

We are told that we can print up pictures with nudity but no actual sex.

That being said at my store we really dont care and we will print everything up. Thats what I tell customers if they ask and it keeps the photos coming in. So its a win-win most of the time.

BTW at my store we dont keep anyone's pictures.

Yeah if there is something interesting we might show the stocker or one of the assistant managers but we dont keep any spare copies in the back, and if someone doesnt want thier pictures we just count the waste prints at the end of the day and shred them.

The normal industry standard  is that if it's not supposed to go through the US Mail then we won't print it.

"Obscenity" was constitutionally defined by the U.S. Supreme Court in its 1973 of Miller versus California decision. Working in professional labs allows me the luxury of sometimes having professional customers who if they are going to be working in the area of explicit images will talk to us about their work and we reach an agreement about doing their work.

For years every week a big box of  slides would arrive via FedEx to be scanned to PhotoCd and sent back to the client, it was all destined for the internet, pretty much no one that works at that lab knows about that work because of the rules about keeping the work to the area it belongs in.

I had to talk to a customer one time about some odd photographs that were in the middle of her roll of file.  It was clear that her kid(s) (6-9yrs oldish) had gotten their hands on the camera and were snapping photos while horsing around at somepoint in the horsing around some of the clothes came off, no nudity was involved.  

It was embarassing having to talk to a customer about it, but damn she was mad, very mad when she looked at the photos and figured out by who wasn't in the pictures which kid had been taking them.
