For any fans of the older movies out there!

Looks like there's a remake in the works of one of my old time favorites. I liked the old James Stewart version. I hope this one is done well.

I remember seeing that movie when it came out. I was 10 or 11... Great story.

Ji-uh-Ji-uh-Jimmy Shtewart was excellent.

That was an excellent movie, but I don't anyone can match Jimmy's skill tho.

Doesnt look too bad. Damn arabs are the bad guys! Thats why its being remade. Makes the bad guys believable.

I'm not convince yet myself. I really did like the older version. I've never been a big Dennis Quaid fan. We'll see.

The oriiginal is one of my all time favorites.

Old...

James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Krüger, Ernest Borgnine, George Kennedy.

New...

Dennis Quaid, Bob Brown, Scott Michael Campbell, Tony Curran, Paul Ditchfield, .Sticky Fingaz ...

Yeah, the new version sucks already.

Yes that was a great movie. A classic old film done right.

Look forward to the remake, although I don't see how they can duplicate the 'magic' the was in that original film.
Bring it on anyway.

I know. I read the Readers Digest version of the novel several years ago. It was nicely bound in hardcover along with three other novels.

Don't ask me what the other three were. I've long forgotten.

Why the snooty quotes around "engineer"? A year or so ago, a damn fine model aircraft engineer put together a drone that flew from the U.S. to Ireland under its own GPS control (except for takeoff and landing):

I forget how much fuel (Coleman white gas) it used, but the total weight of the plane had to be under 14 pounds to qualify for the FAI record book. The Freeper thread says US$6, which would be somewhere under five gallons, probably under three.

Don't forget that a great Hollywood pilot, Paul Mantz, died during the filming of the original movie.

Is that a C-119 in the original? Or a C-82 ? BTW,Jimmy Stewart was a B-52 pilot back in the day when Hollywood supported the Armed Forces of the United States!

No, he was a B-24 pilot and then a squadron commander and eventually on the ops staff. I think he did a full tour of 25 missions. I knew a guy who was a navigator in his squadron, and he said you haven't been chewed out until you've been chewed out by Jimmy Stewart. I also came across some of his squadron records when doing research on B-24 bomber groups a the national archives.

Stewart's son was a Marine and KIA in Vietnam.

The original was a C-82.

I always thought it was a C-119 Flying Boxcar.

Yeah, that was one fine movie. I don't think it could be remade better or equal, but should be a good, fun flick in its own right. I'll be looking forward to it. Thanks for the heads-up.
