Varies wildly from department to department.

It will depend on the agency.  My former agency required at least 3 years of full time law enforcement experience before being eligible to try out.  It varies.

It all depends on the department. But more importantly it depends on your ability to perform.

In our department you must have served your probationary period (1 year) before you are allowed to volunteer.
Generaly will not be accepted for at least 2.

You have to earn three good solid dog kills as a flat foot before you are even considered.

Where I worked as an JBT-A,  you could get on the SWAT team as soon as you were hired by an agency that had one.

No no, it's dog stabbings now.  Anyone can shoot a dog...

My department was 4 years, but its now been dropped to 3 years.  If you can't cut it on the street, you can't cut it on a team.
