i just found out that my long time girlfriend (marriage is very possible down the road) is a democrat. i had been suspecting it for a while, but she doesn't like debating politics and i wasn't for sure until tonight. at least her reason wasn't totally horrible: her family has always been democrat and has been better off financially under democratic presidents.

"Long time" GF and just NOW you become aware of her political orientation?

Sorry, that may not be first date kind of material but it's something you should know long before the idea of marrage (or even agreeing to a comitted relationship) comes into play.

I wonder what other little *surprises* are lurking?

If she is smart enough to convert, then keep her.  If rational discussion and point by point analysis of the issues doesn't change her views, then you DON'T want to be married to her.

like i said, i have suspected for a long time, but i just didn't come out and ask until tonight (i was afraid of what the answer would be). honestly, i didn't want to know. however she is pretty smart, and i am good at convincing her of things. the biggest problem is her family (she's from austin, the liberal stronghold of texas).

Marriage is hard enough when you agree with one another. Don't do something that's doomed when you know better from the begining.

There truly are many fish in the sea, rebate your hook, & relaxe. Smoke a stogie, & have a beer, but wiat for that special once in a life time(maybe twice or three times) mountable catch.

'cause i was a afraid of the answer. deep down, i new it. i just wanted to hold on to a shred of hope. it never really hindered our relationship though, and i don't think it will now. besides, whenever we dissagreed in the past, i always convinced her i was right. this will be the same, it will just take more time.

If you think she is the right woman for you marry her and slowly show her the light...its the only way and it IS possible. It just takes time. Be very subtle, this could take years and politics are NOT worth destroying an otherwise good relationship over. You are in it for the long haul if you go this route.

Go on to have lots of children and raise them to see through all the liberal BS that is destroying this country. Raise them with values. Raise them to respect others. Teach the boys to be gentlemen and the girls to be ladies. Teach them about personal responsibility. If all goes well you will have changed her way of thinking. If it goes bad and she doesnt come around atleast your children will turn out alright. - Nugz

You already know what you need to do. Sure, there are plenty of fish in the sea, but theres no sense throwing an otherwise perfect one back because she doesnt think EXACTLY like you. Good man. Whens the wedding? - Nugz

If she is a Democrat, get to know her ideology... not all Democrats are alike, even though many are. However, regardless of HER motives... her PARTY'S CANDIDATES motives are the only thing that matters if she votes for fucking sKerry!

So she's a democrat. So what? Is she a Liberal? That's the important question.

I suspect your thread is tongue in cheek and meant to be funny.

But things like this may seem slight now, but in time they really can be a sore point in a marriage.

And if this would be your first marriage, and no one else has warned you, women CHANGE FOR THE WORSE drasticly after marriage.

Be careful what you legally agree to give half of your stuff to and pay child support, alimony and spousal support to.

Be careful.

And I know,  "I know what I'm doing, and she is not like other women, blah blah blah" the famous last words of every bitter divorced man I know.

I couldn't do it.  One of my best friends is a liberal ass bag when it comes to politics, but he's a good friend.  We were friends before politics became a big part of our lives.  I can have friends that are not neccessarilly of the same political beliefs that I am, but I could not be in an intimate relationship with someone that doesn't share my core values.

It's a tough call to make, considering your position.

My girlfriend brought it up after we had been going out for about 3 weeks.  She had seen my Bush 04 sticker, and she said she was looking forward to the debates.  She also said she has always been republican.

Then after the debates she said the though of Kerry as POTUS scares her.  I was/am so happy.

Now she boo's at the TV when a Kerry comercial comes on.  I also meet most of her family, and we all had a huge democrat gripe session.  Her whole family is Republican!

I am blessed to have her.  All I have to do is not screw it up.  The 2 month mark is next Wednesday.  Best relationship I have ever had.

Having different political views is only a problem is one person tries to force their views on the other.  If your that insecure that your gf/wife having a different opinion than you causes a problem, you probably don't need to be married to her.

Now if she were anti-gun and told you to get rid of your guns, different story.

Does she have a sister??  We could convert all of them!!

I'm down in Austin, and for being the most liberal city in Texas, we're still pretty damn conservative when compared to SoKal and the like.

Like everyone's mentioned, she's Dem... but is she liberal??  Does she know about your guns?  Have you taken her shooting?  Is she cool with that?  Is she intelligent?

If she's intelligent, and not a raving liberal, you could probably convert her.  Get on it.

If not.... STUFF IT IN HER POOPER AND POST PICS.

Actually... POST PICS anyway.  ;)   We need to see if she's worth keeping.  Just for posterity, you know?

Who cares man.. If politics are really that important to you, odds are you would have found out before now.

As for that being your WORST FEAR.. Either you lead a real sheltered life, or have a real lousy imagination.  MY worst fear has something to do with having the skin stripped off my genitals under a steady brine spray, while Jim McGreevey drills my molars without novocaine.  Try pondering on that for awhile, and if you would like to take it as your own worst fear to chill you out on this whole democrat thing, be my guest.

I'm to the point I really believe anyone who claims to be a Democrap and is educated on the issues is a Socialist on the road to a Communist. I could not be friends with on of them. I respect Democracy and it takes all kinds, don't get me wrong, but I don't have to befriend a Socialist.
