Everyday before school I talk to him about politics.Well I brought up the 2nd Amendment. He said shit like "Well i'm a hunter and I think semi automatic weapons have no use."I said, "The second amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting, look for yourself."Needless to say he mentioned other things and each time I came with an effective counter that left him dumbfounded.I also had to do a report on the 2nd today for history and the frickin teacher wouldnt let my say everything I wanted. He asked if there was a need for guns.I said "Not in a civilized world there isnt but...." than he cut me off and wouldnt let me talk.I was gunna say that we dont live in a civilized world. It was awsome.I hope I get to do that more often.

There are plenty of uses for guns in a civilized world! I know, because I live in a civilized world! Civilization is not a cure for crime, anger, hatred or violence. People contort every foundational truth and fact, and then wonder why our rights are being assaulted as they are.

So is your German teacher as much of a stick in the mud as mine? If one of us is even smiling, she figures we're not paying attention.

Reminds me of when the Young Conservatives debated the Young democrats on gun control at my school. I got a bunch of statistics and rattled them off and made my point... and then the democrat who went up said, "I don't need any statistics or papers to say what I have to say. Guns are bad."

It was hilarious. Through all of our debates, we backed our arguments up with fact, they used their own personal feelings.

While you're in school, check up on this grammatical rule:  After a sentence, a period and TWO SPACES should precede the next sentence.

Anyway, keep up the good work.  The truth is the light, and many in school, students and teachers alike, are in the dark.

Sorry, but I must disagree with part of this statement.  "Hunting is not a need any more."
Hunting serves multiple purposes.  It is not merely a hobby or a method of obtaining food that has not been tainted by things such as mad cow or bovine growth hormone or any of a variety of things that occur to processed foods.  It is also a method of population control.  Since man has killed off most of the predators which used to control populations of animals such as deer, there is no population control other than the hunter and starvation.  Without hunters, deer would overpopulate and then starve.  Disease would be another factor that takes control during periods of starvation.  Also, deer migration would cause mass quantities of accidents with populations that are much higher than at current levels.

Another thing, Ask your German teacher what happened in 1938 when a certain little austrian banned all private ownership of guns in Germany.  Ask him what is happening in Australia right now.  Ask why the cities with the most stringent anti gun laws also have the highest crime rates.  Maybe something just might sink in.

Do what I do...

Clip out a whole bunch of murder & rape stories from the newspaper, and put 'em in a little binder pated to some sheets... or photo album sticky things work the best.

Then cutout a bunch of pro-gun self-defense stories, and put 'em in the same binder or a different one.
When someone asks, break it out, and just let 'em flip through all these dead people & rape stories.

Newspaper clipping ironically make a lot of people see reality. Kinda freaky.

Then let 'em flip to the other section. Tell 'em, the people in the 1st section are dead, the people in the 2nd section are alive, & "I know which section I want my family to be in."

Haven't really converted anyone with that, but they stop arguing and don't have anything to say either.

That's a REALLY good idea right there.  If you have a confrontation or a disagreement with a teacher, bring a picture of your rifle to school and deliberately try to make him think you are crazy!!

As somebody who used to be a high school German (and history) teacher, here's why: German language is tainted by German history, namely the Nazis. Nobody wants to be accused of being a Nazi. Better to be considered a Communist, than a Nazi. Or so the thinking goes.

Therefore, anybody who is a German teacher, in my experience, veers very far to the left politically and socially in order to overcompensate for the past deeds of the Germans, with whom he/she has chosen to associate him/herself. As a consequence, German teachers feel especially put upon and worry about getting tarred with the same anti-Nazi brush that is swiped against any conservative, esp. in the academic world. The kind of people that become German teachers often equate conservative politics with Hitler, Fascism and National Socialism.

There are only about 5,000 German teachers in the US- the American Association of Teachers of German is a VERY small, but very liberal organization. Since there aren't many jobs in German anyway, and the positions don't pay well, acc. to surveys done periodically by the AATG, the majority of the jobs go to single people- usually self-described left-wing gay or lesbian academic types. A blanket statement? Maybe, but I just remember reading what the organization put out in its newsletters. (I am no longer a member of the AATG, BTW.)

Even though I used to vote Democrat in my youth, my colleagues in German always referred to me as the "right-wing nut"

The old rule for typed manuscripts was always two spaces.

Professional typesetters just spaced stuff out so it looked right when doing the final documents.

Modern computers allow us to type in fonts where not every letter takes up the same space.  the lower case "l" does not take up as much space as a "w" - but they used to on old typewriters, or even monotypic fonts available today on you 'puter - such as "Courier."  There thus used to be a lot more clumsy white space in words, so two spaces was needed to make the space obvious.

The people that developed fonts like Times New Roman, developed it to to pretty much do what the old typesetters used to do by hand.

The problem is, the advent of desktop publishing and such capabilities caufght the world off guard, and the old mindset is tought to break.  Pick up an professionally published old book, though, and there are definitely NOT two spaces after sentences.

FWIW, the US Army dictates Times New Roman font and 2 spaces after sentences in all correspondence.

Word. I had to turn in a couple of kids who were drawing pics of guns in their notebooks, bec. of school policy.

Funny thing is, twenty years ago, I did the very same thing when I was a kid, a lot. The kids were perfectly normal, one was quiet, (as if that's a worrying sign), and the other a loudmouthed jock. Both were just bored with school (study hall).

Neither was a psychopath, but school administrators see gunowners as psychopaths, so, they got talked to by their "guidance counselors", two of the weirdest people I ever met, BTW. I have no idea how these counselors got and kept their jobs, but they were two very strange women. But even they saw no problems with these boys. Go figure.

Actually, the "two spaces rule" related to typewriters. It is now outdated and no longer even mentioned in current writing style guides. If you look, he wasn't putting any space at all between the period and the  start of the next sentence.

Irregardless, keep up the good work opening people's eyes about the current state of gun laws. About two years ago I was a chaperone at a school campout. While there, a couple teachers (whom I had known since back when I was a student) and I got into a discussion about assault weapons. As usual the old "Who needs an assault weapon to hunt?" argument came up, and I had to point out that the Browning BAR mark 1 I had used for deer for years could be considered an "Assault Weapon" with just a few cosmetic changes. Both of these guys had used semi-automatic shotguns and rifles for years, but they were misled by the media into picturing machineguns instead of the weapons they currently own.

Edited to fix a wording flaw.
