I have a friend who is recently divorced. Her ex-husband is crazy and happens to have a best friend in the sheriffs department. She had a get together with some friends last weekend, the ex caught wind of it and decided to try and make her life hell (with the aid of his deputy best friend of course). Anyways...he "called" the police to make a disturbing the peace complaint about the party..and guess who showed up? His friend...who was extremely rude to my friend and wrote her a ticket. Then...10 minutes later shows back up after "he recieved a call there was drugs and guns in the house" which was complete BS...just her ex husband calling his friend trying to screw with her..and that he needed to search it. So, he proceeded to search the house, the whole time being extremely rude and basically harassing the occupants. Well, my friend wasn't going to take this, so she went to the police department to file a complaint against the officer (her ex's best friend). They told her she was over reacting and basically to go away. What else can she/ should she do to help avoid this again in the future? I am all for cops doing their job and taking action when appropriate, but this is out of control. Thanks for the input

I'm sure there is someone higher up that she can complain to--especially if the caller/reporter is found to be the ex.  I would think that the deputy could get in a bit of trouble for doing what he did.

A written complaint to internal affairs would take care of the cop who's making it his business.  As a LEO, it seems "felony stupid" for the sheriff to involve himself in something that's clearly biased.   Not only is he jeapordizing his employment, but as noted about, exposing his employer to liability for the entire matter.

An eight ball and some kiddie porn in the assholes car then get someone else to drop a dime to another department and say that the perv was trying to show you his private no no place and offered you drugs.

Yup that ought to up the ante to the point that leaves only a chopping axe to the base of the spine as the only viable option left to consider.

Speak to the chain of command at the Sheriff's Office. Ask to speak to a supervisor the next time he arrives.

The cops are the problem here, so you have to go OUTSIDE the cops to get the solution.  I am assuming this is a small town, either talk to a lawyer and sue or start talking to the city counsel

The Sheriff's Office would be a County agency, the city council would have no control over it.

Who called the complaint in?

Fight the citation.

If it is retaliation, the Sherrif's Office will probably have very little sense of humor.

Of course, it could also be that the party was out of control, the neighbor(s) got sick of it and called. The Deputy that showed up didn't want to be there any longer than neccesary, and the "suspect" was being a jerk because "I know that cop".

My family tried to fight corruption in the district court and the Sheriff's Office all the way to the Governors office in NC..........result?........................."00000000000000".
They practice corruption PROFESSIONALLY in NC!

So 2 mecahics screw a guy over, and GM is trying to put it to him?

"Told overreacting and go away". Was that immediately or did that person actually investigate? Who was that person? Some schmoe "at the window" or a supervisor?

Next, 1 Deputy to a loud party call? Generally I think most places send at least 2.

"was rude to me" oftem means things like, asked me to quiet down, didn't want to have an extended conversation about what actually constitutes the meaning of the phrase "unreasonable noise, at 3:30 am..............." etc.

I'm not sure about this story either way. It could be straight out harrasment, or it could be drama queen story #174, or a little bit of both.

The problem is ONE officer who is friends with the man involved and allowing his personal friendship to influence his activities while in uniform. Its not the agency, at least as far as we can tell from the post. Therefore, the place to start is within the agency chain of command.

She got "blown off" by another completely different  agency. Another agency is NOT going to get involved until she has exhausted her options within the chain of command at the agency she is complaining about.

The original officer involved was a Deputy with the Sheriffs Office; she went to the Police Department to complain.

We routinely get people who aren't happy with the answers they get at another agency and come to us to complain, just as they get people complaining about our decisions. Its called "agency shopping" when someone is looking to have another person arrested and isn't getting their desired result. If its personnel related, we  refer them back to that agencies chain of command.

You know what?  You are right.  I looked at the story completely one-sided.If this woman feels she has a legitimate complaint with the police dept. she should go thru the proper chain of command and complaint dept. of the cops.


If that fairs and she still thinks she has a case then she should pursue other legitamite means.



From all the stories I hear about some of your guys ex-wives and ex-girlfrineds it is evident that there is a whole class of vile women out there that may have clouded your guys judgemenet towards the sex as a whole.

Glad I never met too many women like that, so I tend to believe a womans side of the story more often.  Either stance has it's weakness.

Because past experience has proven it to be very likely.

In the unlikely event it IS a true story,  fight the ticket, and file a formal written complaint WITH THE ACTUAL AGENCY INVOLVED. I mean,  how stupid do you have to be to realize the Sheriff's dept and the City police are not the same thing?  If they refuse the complaint, file a bigger one with the State AG, ot the Ethics Commission (if the state has one)

A much more effective approach than third hand stories over the internet.
