There are more expensive safes, but Sentry makes a good safe for the money. I have the 10-gun safe (yeah, it's too small) but it holds my more expensive guns just fine. Very heavy, solid steel construction, combination lock with three 1.5" steel bars in the door.
I gave $250 for mine at Walmart but they have the 14-gun model going for $359 at the local Lowes Home Improvement Center. There will be those that trash talk this safe, but it works fine for me. ETA I don't know that I would want an electric lock... |

The guy want 595 plus tax for the one I looked at. I wonder if it is the same as the Lowes 359 deal...... Thanks for the testimonials. I know there are prettier, sturdier safes but this may work if I can get a deal.

I've got a 14 gun non-insulated model. Good value for the money.
While it won't keep someone with good tools and time from getting to your collection it's far better than a Homak type cabinet. |

One of my shooting buddies has two of them. MUCH better than one of those cheapo "locker" things with the tumbler key lock. Probably the best buy under $500. DO bolt it to the floor if you buy one.

The model I looked at differs from the Lowes model according to their website in that it doesnt offer fire protection and is not electronic. 359 vs 595. I guess thats the price difference.

I don't mind mine, but for some reason it seams crowded in their with only 6 long guns and misc., you may want to go bigger I wish I had.

Home Depot had the same safe for around $349. I was too late as I think it was a seasonal thing.

It kinda depends on the value of your firearms and what you’re trying to protect them against.
Sentry safes (at least the $200 ones sold by Wal-Mart, which are the only one’s I’m acquainted with) are an excellent value for the money. They are surprisingly sturdy. They’ll keep your kids away from your firearms. They’ll also and do a pretty good job of keeping any neighborhood druggies from getting your firearms. However, they certainly don’t offer the security (or high price) of, say, a Fort Knox. The better safes absolutely offer more than just a nice paint job. The question is – do you need more? |

I just ordered the black 14-gun non-insulated, electronic lock Sentry from.. of all places.. costco.com. It came out to $524 delivered to the curb (with 5% non-member penalty, $499 for members). There aren't many smaller gunsafes available for sale around here, had to order one in. There was a real nice Winchester for $800 at Sams, but I'm going to be somewhat mobile the next few years, and that thing is e-friggin-normous.
Glad to see so many positive opinions. The price and size fit my needs but I was rather afraid it was going to be a POS. Two or three more weeks for freight and I'll find out. |

Got mine today. A GS5251 fireproof safe from Costco for $775 delivered to the curb. Once it arrived I unpacked and unbolted it from the pallet. Transfered it to a dolly (rented from Uhaul for $7.50), and wheeled it in. But I did have extra help, do not try it alone-one mistake and you are looking at 500 pounds of steel on your chest. Definitly get bigger than you tihnk you'll ever need. as stated, they must use handguns when they take these "14 gun" measurements.
I've got a Stack On 14 gun. Actually hold about 8. You'll need a cutting torch to open it. Not fireproof....that's what insurance is for. |

I've got 2 Sentry safes...very good value for the money, but if you're looking at one in the $600 range, it may be time to spend a little more and get something better.
I've got the combo lock 14 gun one that Wally World sells for $299. It's a steal at that price. BTW, their capacity is for non scoped traditional long guns....real world use, with scoped rifles and ARs, is about 8 or 9. |

If you want a good safe cheap, get an American Security safe. I bought mine for 460. Another 200 bux would have gotten me a fire rated one.
It's the only safe in that price range that's actually rated against burglary. Galyons carries them. I'm sure you can get them other places. But, any safe is better than none. www.amsecusa.com/gun-safes-teton-5924-main.htm |

If you use gunsocks on your rifles/shotguns you can nestle them together without fear of scratches...the gunsocks are also good corrosion protection (in conjunction w/ a goldenrod)...my stackon 14 gun safe has 28 long guns (military bolt and semis, hunting, lever, shotties, etc) , and then a bunch of pistols too. |

Just a price check for local reference.
Walmart has the Sentry 10 gun safe for 198.00. I forget which lock type it was. I didn't see a 14 gun model there. Home Depot has the Sentry 14 gun combination lock model for 349.00. Both looked to be decent quality. Not as pretty as the more expensive stuff but better than nothing. As stated before, 14 guns looks to be a stretch. Either of these models are portable enough to be moved by one man and a dolly IMHO. Two if you're a girly man or have lots of stairs. Walmart also had the 8 gun security cabinets for 79.00, again not a safe but way better than stuffing them in your closet or under the bed. It's time for another safe. |

I got one from Sports Authority. It was 249.00 including a coupon i had for 25% off. Suits my needs, but sure would like a $3,000+ fort knox or something similar. Also, dont take thier capacity figures to truth. Mine I think said 14 gun, and Im lucky to get 8 in there

I have the same exact safe and I also bought it from Galyans here in the Las Vegas area.It's a real good safe for the money.It may not keep out the professional thief with tools, but it will keep out out the typical druggie/crackhead/scumbag.In my safe I have about 7 handguns and 8-10 long guns,plus some ammo,and acessories (holsters,magazines,knives,binos,etc).I also put other valuables in there when I go out of town (laptop computer,digital camera,documents,etc.). With all that I still have room for a few for more firearms.It may be cluttered,but you can fit quite a few guns if you put them in the right way.Hope this helps. |

True they're better than nothing, but MY biggest fear concerning my firearms isn't theft, it's fire damage. Thats what I bought my Liberty to protect against (which I'm outgrowing already I should have gotten the bigger one!). Whatever you buy, figure what you think will be too big for you. Then buy the next size bigger.
