Splinter of the Mind's Eye IIRC.

BTW I think it's "Yuzzum"

The Han Solo books were great too.

probably 8mm mauser ammo on stripper clips? because they did use a German MG42 in STAR WARS, so 8mm mauser would be a possibility?

I did a little searching because...well i dunno why..but anyhow heres the skinny on the bowcaster

The Bowcaster, may seem like an archaic weapon when compared to modern blasters, however it is no less effective.  Unlike blasters, the bowcaster is actually a projectile weapon that fires quarrels.  Upon impact, the quarrels will explode, allowing it to pierce most personal armor.  The downside to the bowcaster is the immense amount of strength required to cock it, much more than what the average human has.  Because of this, the weapon is almost exclusively used by species that naturally have a great deal of strength.  However, it is still considered a rare weapon outside of Kashyyyk, where it is commonly preferred to blasters.

The stormtroopers used MG34's and IIRC Chewbacca also had a Hollywood modified Lewis gun.

The only time we see Chewie fire his bowcaster in the movies is in ROTJ when he blasts a escaping speederbike.  And it looked like a blaster, though slightly heavier.  Maybe he has an undermounted heavy blaster as backup to the explosive quarrels.

<starwarsgeek>
ANH--when Han & Luke were disguised as Stormtroopers escorting their "prisoner" Chewie to the cell block.  Besides the Sterling smg based blasters that Han & Luke had they also had the Lewis based blaster that the "escaping" Chewie grabbed.  Han's regular pistol is a modified C-96 Mauser "broomhandle".  The droid zapping gun used by the Jawas is a cut down modified Lee Enfield.

Nice catch, both of  you.

That was one of only TWO "aftermarket" Star Wars book I've ever read.  Or was it just one?   Darned if I can remember.  I might have read two and the stories blended together somehow.  Was Lando Calrissian in Splinter?    I guess you could have your own LIBRARY filled with just that type of book now.

Back to the original question about Chewie's bandoleer...

Personally, I don't think it's a bandoleer at all.  It's a Wookie cock ring!

CJ

Splinter of the Minds Eye was a great book.  I read it when I was in the 7th grade, I need to get a copy and re-read it.....

You sir would be correct. The bowcaster was a weapon often used by wookies because of its strength and ease of use. Much like the Chinese Chu Ko Nu it accepted a magazine power pack that allowed it to fire one bolt after another however the bolts were energy rather wood/iron. The purpose of the bowcaster, just like its real life father the crossbow, was more on power than quick firing.

...uh, NM, guess I shouldn't be digging through mrs sleepdr's purse.

Chewbacca's bandolier?  celery, mini tobasco sauce bottle, airline bottle of vodka, small cans of V8 juice, beef jerky, a Swiss Army knife, and one of those "survivall kits in a sardine tin."  ...and more celery.
