I'm on the otherside of the border, but not too far. I'm in Fargo, ND....3 and 1/2 hours from the cities. Welcome to the land of the free.

It gets very, very cold up there. Last winter I was up there, the temperature was -20, windchill, -50. You could take a glass of water, toss the contents up in the air, and have a cloud of instant ice crystals.

Those of us in ND will still think you're in a socialist state. Too bad you're going to the cities, the rest of the state is quite nice.

Stillwater is a great area! Well done. My parents live about 10 miles from there. I wonder if the Loch Ness Club near Somerset, WI is still in business? How about the Mad Hatter bar in downtown Stillwater?

it is cold here, but not as bad as it sounds. it only sucks for a month or two.

I'm heading back up that way as soon as we get the house here in Austin, TX sold. Moving to the in-laws farm in north-eastern Anoka county for the interim.
Remember... dress in layers. It really does work better than buying one big, overstuffed jacket.

Lockheed up there has been running a line of job offerings for programmers and electrical engineers on Monster. Just had a nibble today on a Network Admin job, 3 month short term though. Not quite I'm looking for.

Welcome to the yupiest red neck town in the 'cities. If you have any questions feel free to IM me, I've lived there for the most part of 20 years.
1st thing: If you plan on working within the 694/494 loop, live inside the loop. Traffic is starting to get bad, especially for those commuting from the east side, and there is no relief in sight. |

Last time I was up there I found some good Mexican food , can't remember if I was in fargo or moorhead. But it was off the loop and those folks sure took care of us. Found a good sporting goods store too, believe it was Sheels or Sheilds, nice gun selection. Wish I could move up there, damn but you got some huge deer. |

Thanks there Janus! I am getting a job for the meantime doing some chaffuer type driving and auto detaling till kitchen hiring season or a job opens up a high end place there. Unlike many other types of jobs, you have to be there to get the job-they need you ASAP to get on the line.(unless they are bringing you in a manager..then they will give you time). Inferno, the people I work for need some mechanic type to do matieneance and other things of that sort on the limos and other cars. If you happen to have any skill at that, maybe I can get you some work for cash doing that. |

The Stillwater area is very nice. Keep in mind that MN is very much a Democratic stronghold and the home of some of the most PC assholes you'll ever meet. But, for the most part, the people are nice. Just remember to subscribe to the St Paul Pioneer Press and not the Mpls Star Tribune (aka Red Star or Star Diaper). Don't sweat the winter, it's a lot of hype.

Welcome to the frozen tundra.
Seriously, though. I moved to MN from the Gulf Coast 1.5 years ago. Winters are not a problem, but if you own a home, get a snowblower before it snows so you can get one real cheap. I shovelled all winter. Pain in the ass, especially when you have to leave for work at 5 am. |

That ain't no sh!!t. I grew up shoveling MN snow, and sledding down hills on it. A Texas "Blue Norther" feels colder than a nice crisp winter in MN. When it gets cold in the south, it is wet, windy and nasty! When it gets cold up north, it is more often bright & sunny. They are not the same type of cold. |

One guy told me (a dealer in MN) that a FFL transfer on an AR-15 lower was more paper work as they are treated as pistols (which I guess were more paperwork also). Maybe this was only true for non-residents. I've also heard about not having any weapons exposed in the vehicle (even when hunting). I guess they have to be in a case or under the seat in a container of somesort. In ND, you can have a gun in the vehicle (as long as its not concealed) and have it loaded (just not a shell in the chamber). |

Keep it on the QT Henry. Ain't lettin' our managers in on it yet. Andre may not be getting my group anyway. 2/3 jobs we do in my group are platform related instead of processor related. Doesn't make sense to dump us there. More than likely we'll end up under Ashley. Yippy. As for the tech market.... there are jobs. If all you are looking for is Unix or contract. Ajilon and Lockheed are the two big names that keep cropping up on various search engines. I was actually talking to a guy at Arctic Cat and some gal at Polaris that didn't impress me much. Seagate and IBM both have a presence there. 3M of course. Not sure what kinda shape Honywell is in these days. Target headquarters is up there. Roll the dice....

Stillwater is a nice place- getting overpriced for homes though- come over to WI - I live like 5 miles from stillwater- we can go to the Cajun or Lochness
 if you have to drive East (to WI) to work =---you will not have any traffic also if you are working on (or are) a chef, there are several places in stillwater/hudsonyou could work- although there are few VERY high end places im if you want more info also lowers are not treated like pistols- you can buy one like a rifle- |

Welcome to MN, we shoot outdoors most of the winter, PM me if you are interested in seeing if your weapons will fire under extreme conditions. I am within 15 min of Stillwater, so is the range we shoot at.
