I discovered this little scientific equation, quite by accident, Saturday:

This:

Plus this:

Equals this:
Personal Digital Tortilla

Adios, $650.  Coulda been a new AR upper.

On the bright side, this has taught me a new economic philosophy.  From now on, each time my home computer survives a thunderstorm, I'll have a couple thousand bucks to spend on gun stuff since I saved all that money by not having to replace the computer.

Another plus -- the case's super-loose belt clip that allowed it to fall off is now super tight.

I wouldn't mind abandoning toys like this either, but my life is actually WAY simpler with it.

Hey, my cell phone is uber-crappy but under warranty... if I send it to you, will you crush it so I can get a new one?

Should have got a Palm.

On this site I have seen heads blown apart by small arms fire, and a guy with a telephone pole through his crotch.

But this made me cry.

MagKnightX:  A cellular tortilla . . . hmmmm, I'm intrigued . . . Yes!  I'll do it.  But be advised that I'm having to use the personal computer endorsement on my home insurance, not the warranty.

Rangie:  I had Palms for 8 years.  I just moved up in the world.  Actually, I needed to do stuff that was just impractical on Palm.  BTW, I never so much as scratched a PDA before.

mjohn3006:    I excreted masonry for a day and a half until I remembered I had insurance that would cover it.  Phew!  A new one should be here in the morning.  Still, it sickens me to look at the poor li'l critter.

I have a cell phone to match your PDA.  It fell off my belt as I was getting in the truck.  I didn't realize it until I started to back out of the driveway.

At least I didn't go over my allotted minutes that month!

Ouchie.  That's why I don't carry anything but a free cell phone any more.

It looks like maybe the screen is just screwed.  Have you opened it up to see if the PCB is cracked?  If not, you might be able to get a used screen somewhere (i.e. maybe somebody fried their electronics but the screen is ok).  Kind of a long shot, but worth a try.

It actually powers up and connects to my computer.  But alas, I think it's toast.  The case is cracked and bent in a couple of places and the belt clip is embossed into the battery.  I kind of doubt it would be reliable.  Plus a new screen is in the neighborhood of $400 (DIY).

Not bad for getting crunched under 8,000 pounds of truck, huh?

Sadly, when I tried to power it on immediately after, it appeared dead, so I left it and went out of town.  When I came home that night, I reseated the battery and it powered up, but had forgotten everything.  Had I done that in the first place, I wouldn't have lost everything.  I haven't synced since the day before Gunstock.  DOH!

Good news; the new tortilla just arrived.  Now to wait on the insurance check.

Shameless Plug
The morning I turned the iPAQ into a CrunchPaq, I considered carrying it that day in the Spec-Ops Brand PDA holster I bought at Gunstock.  There's no way to loose it off the belt and it has better padding.  I decided against it because I had it already attached to my MOLLE vest and it's OD green.  I thought the color would look funny with blue jeans and a tan shirt (we were going to a wine festival, of all things).  Coincidentally, as I was considering this, the iPAQ was in the street waiting to be squashed flat.  Had I heeded the call of Spec-Ops, everything would have been fine.

So today, I'm ordering a black pouch from Spec-Ops Brand.  Woo woo!

I'm confused.  You didn't wear your MOLLE vest to the wine tasting because........?

I see the error of my ways.

Oddly enough, I had the pleasure of walking unescorted around a locomotive repair yard at lunch today (still have major wood from that!!!).  I found myself unable to resist the urge to briefly place my new 3-hour-old digital tortilla under the wheel of a 150-ton choo choo engine.    Sadly, I didn't have the camera with me.  Maybe next time.

I'd call HP and see if they'd be interested in fixing it for you.

HP-compaq gave me an awesome story last year....

An ipaq died on a friday.

Monday morning, they sent me a pick-up box.

Monday evening, it was picked up.

Tuesday, it was repaired.

Wednesday, it was back in my hands.

This gives me an idea for a thread.......
