I am by no means a Garand expert, but I am quite familiar with them - and recently bought one (off this board in fact), so I can give you my 2 cents worth.
What I got was a 1943 Springfield manufacture, with a newer (1959) barrel that is in really good shape. Parts are not matching serial number- but I could care less since I wanted a shooter, and this one shoots great. I paid 450 for it, and I paid an expert Garand gunsmith another 30 to check it out, tighten it up, etc.
Considering that the one you are talking about sounds similar (a shooter, not a collector's piece), but you don't think it is WWII, I would not pay more than 400 for it.
Stuff like the bandoler, sling and clips can be picked up at gunshows for next to nothing - so that doesn't really add a whole lot of value.
Keep in mind also that I think you can still buy the "Danish" Garands from the CMP. Note there is nothing danihs about them - they are usually WWII Garands that were given/loaned to the danish military after the war - and have now made their way back to the US (often with replaced barrels). Mine is most likely one of these.
I'm not sure what the CMP charges - but it's either 300 or 400, and it's a great deal. You might want to look into that.
One final note - be wary of re-welded receivers. There are some of those out there, and they must be avoided like the plague. Do not buy an M1 from anyone without disassembling it and taking a good look at the receiver.
Sorry 'bout the long email - Garands get me all excited! [:D]
