and it makes me feel like less of a person.  I want to get one or the other.  I presently can't get both.  I will probably have to either layaway them or piece one together over a couple of months.  Whick would you choose?  The closest thing to an AR I have in caliber and type is a mini-14.  The closest thing to a 1911 would be.... well hell I don't know I have various semi autos, but not a .45.  I don't have a single action semi auto either.

If you were a gun nut such as myself and didn't own two of the required guns, which would you pick?

Now, you realize every smartass on the board is going to tell you to get both, right?

Since you already have a .223 rifle, and you already have semi-auto handguns, you don't NEED either. Search your soul and find out which one you really WANT. Get that one.

Personally I'd get an AR - no telling if President Kerry(shudder) will push for a new ban.

That's a loaded question since the required answer is "Get Both!"

If you have handguns just not a .45ACP then logic suggests that an AR would be first choice.

As for which one, I can't really suggest since I'm behind enemy lines and don't have one myself.

Get a 1911 first, it's your duty as an American, and they can cost less if you stick with plain jane guns.  Then start collecting up all the parts needed for an AR.

Soon, you will have Both! as required by the AR-15.com society norms.

Take a look at the Olympic Arms Plinker if you want an entry level AR that won't cost an arm, let alone a leg.

I'm just guessing here, but you probably need to sell all the pistols with plastic receivers that you own to finance this need.  IMHO.

I wasn't originally going to say it, but I was looking at a 1911 style in a 10mm.  I like the 10mm.  I have always wanted an ar though.  I really like the shorties.

Get an AR...make sure to get a good one.  A rifle/carbine is a more versitile piece than a handgun.  You won't regret a good AR.

Save up for an AR now.  They are the number one target of gun bans, and though you can buy them now, liberals will keep hammering out new bills to try and ban them.

A 1911 is much more likely to be around for a long time in gun stores.

There is always other 45ACP pistols, such as HK USP, Sig 220, Glocks, etc. When it comes to rifles, there is nothing wrong with the SKS or an AK. Or tried to get a good used one. How about an M1 Garand or Carbine? The Ruger Mini-14 is one of the few guns in this genre that is legal in Kali-fornia. Spend only what you think you can afford and no more.

Boy you are less of a man...you could build an AR and buy a 1911 for around 900 bucks.  Total!!

**and it makes me feel like less of a person.**

Never think that.

You're worth more to someone, than any material object. Especially to God, the King of Kings!

As for firearms, just work hard for it, and practice safety.

Most of all, practice love.

Get the AR first. No one can ban the 1911 in U.S.

Do what you want with the Mini14... (Personally, I would sell it)

Buy an AR15 first, Then buy a decent AK.
You can buy tons of high quality, low priced mags for these guns.

Your next priority should be an M1 Garand from the CMP.

Then save your money and buy a good 1911.

After the 1911, you will need a decent .308... save more money and buy an M1A

In a few years, you will have more guns than you have fingers and toes...

Don't worry about it.  Now, don't get me wrong here...I love 1911s and own several.  However, they are not the be-all end-all handgun.  The same is to be said for the AR15.  I have a couple, I love em, they are great fun to shoot.  Owning ARs is kind of like playing Barbie for men.  Accessorize!  Hell, that's half the fun of owning an AR...buying all the HSLD gear to go on it or make it run better.  I also own two Mini-14s and I happen to think that they are fantastic little rifles.  Where the AR-type rifles get the one-up on the Minis is in the aftermarket.  There just isn't as much SecretAgentTacticalNinjaOperator junk to hang off a mini-14.

If you gave me a box stock Mini-14 and a ruger GP-100 and sent me out into the woods to survive, I'd be just fine.

From a practical standpoint, my gut instinct would be to go for an AR if you feel you just have to have one of the two.  First, you already own a .223, so commonality of ammo is a good thing.  Secondly...there is all manner of stuff you can do with an AR.  You already have other semi-auto handguns, so you have the CCW issue covered, if you live in a CCW state.

Of course, real men shoot shoot .308s, so you should junk the whole AR idea and buy an M1A.

Don't buy anything until you have the cash to do it right. Otherwise you sell it at a loss and start over, and that sucks.

You're not less of a person, Just a person with less guns.

I'd say get an AR, then a 1911 after.

In case AWB II comes around, the AR is more likely to make it on the ban list than a 1911.
