It was  microwave and it was absolutely horrible. Would it taste any better if it wasn't microwave?

yes.  Fresh ones are lightly salted and sweet.

Reminds me of weak cracker jax without peanuts , but I've only
tried it once and that was the real deal made in a big iron kettle .

Kids liked it though ...........
