I carry a Kimber Ultra CDP 1911 but its because of the weather here. 1911s are easy to conceal, just freakin heavy.

a full sized 1911 is not a great carry pistol, for the size.

Bah... If you want a 9mm, get a Beretta... Otherwise, the PPK is a great 'small' gun, and the .45 is, well, a .45... Can't recoommend a wheelgun for anything except a cowboy costume on the 31st, though... |

I've got a Beretta 92F, but the GLOCK 19 is smaller, lighter, better balanced, and holds the same amount of ammo as the 92. |

Glocks will blow up on you and the slide on the Beretta will fly off and hit you in the face. I thought everyone knew that.

What a stupid rule! In Michigan, we can carry anything that is legally registered (all handguns mus be registered). I have a Kel-Tec P3AT that stays in my pocket at all times. I also keep a Taurus 85 in the console of my car at all times. For "evening and weekend" carry I switch between my Beretta 92F and my Smith & Wesson 908S. My points: 1. The "pistol you test with is the pistol you must carry" rule sucks! 2. My Kel Tec P3AT isn't my first choice of carry pistols, but it is the gun that "follows me everywhere". Sometimes you have to compromise. I'd rather have a half plastic .380 than be unarmed. 3. It's always good to have a revolver handy. 4. I sometimes conceal a Beretta 92F, which is as big but bulkier than a full size 1911. The SW 908S is about the size of an "officer's" 1911 (Colt Commander) and I like that much more. |

I coulda swore he said no plastic guns for carry.  Reading:0 Comprehension:0 Still. BTW I own and carried a G19 for two years. Its a good gun and I'd still trust my life to it but I carry a 1911 now.

I'm not sure what the original question was but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been answered yet.
Yes, I carry a full size 1911. An aluminum frame helps a lot. A milt sparks watch six helps even more. A good IWB is essential when you're carrying a full-size everyday, I find a 1911 conceals better than a glock and I like carrying cocked and locked. So I can wholeheartedly recommend the 1911. HTH. |

I carry a full size kimber. I only carry that for now maybe a G19 in the summer time but from my understanding you should not be switching guns all the time. Under high stress you could get confused unless they were simply glocks like a 30 and 19. I will most likely just get a lighter 1911 for summer use but stay with the same general specs so as not to get confused if i had to defend myself.
I use a milt sparks vm2 most of the time but if its hot i can carry my 1911 in a belly band that i move down to just below my waist. It works quite well if i am wearing shorts without a belt. This is what i learned in a couple classes i took anyway. In extreme stress even the most simple movements seem difficult. I would suggest taking a few defensive handgun training classes to anyone who is going to carry best money i ever spent. By the way i trained at OFA (Oregon Firearms Academy) |

I carried a Sig P226 for a while and have recently fallen in love with my Kimber TLE II. As fashion dictates, I rotate an unnamed plastic gun and the Kimber for EDC.
A good belt, a good holster and proper garments make the full sized 1911 disappear. |

Don't have a fullsize 1911 but did carry my Springfield Ultra Compact as a "hot weather" piece (IWB).
Lot of weight for the size. Am now using a Bulgarian Makarov in its place. Other 2 carry pieces are plastic (Walther P99 in .40 and Beretta 9000S in .40) for cooler weather. |

Sure, a full-size 1911 can be carried comfortably in a good IWB holster. I suggest a Milt Sparks Versa-Max II or Watch-Six. The W-S is slightly thinner, but has no mouth reinforcement.
A 1911, while heavier than the Glock 19, is easier to carry IMO. The 1911 is thinner. |

A Commander is quite a bit easier to carry than a Gov't model due to less weight & less length. It's an excellent choice for CCW.

My full size 5" Kimber Custom (heavily customized by Novaks Inc.) absolutely disappears in my Alessi IWB holster.
Check it out: Alessi GWH IWB Holster I also have and use a Milt Sparks Executive Companion. It's nowhere near the quality of the Alessi, but it sits a tad lower on my belt, and in someways is more stable, although a bit more bulky as well. Check it out: Milt Sparks Executive Companion -Jim |

I have a 686 with a 2" (2 and whatever fraction it actually is  ) BBL that I sometimes carry in my front pocket.I don't carry a full-sized 1911, but I have a Combat Commander which has a waistband clip (I'm too tired to look for the real name) that I sometimes carry 'thug-style' and a Defender and Officer's Model that I sometimes carry in inside the waistband holsters. As far as the Defender and Officer's Model go I wouldn't think a couple of extra inches wouldn't bother me size-wise - weight-wise might be a different story though. Probably wouldn't bother me, but I suspect it might bother others. |

how about the kimber cdp 1911?
shot one recenty; excellent compactness, pretty good accuracy, and not much recoil hw/ i had a fte, some said that i had limp wristed, but i dont know; the owner had a fte later also, but he did not limp wrist but i think that the pistol was just not broken in yet |

I'M WONDERING IF YOU ARE GIVING SERIAL NUMBERS TO THESE GUYS??? I MEAN, IF YOU HAVE TO FINE, BUT I WOULD KEEP A LICENSE IN A RECIPICATING STATE THAT DIDN'T REQUIRE IT IF I COULD. IN LOUISIANA YOU CARRY WHAT EVER HANDGUN YOU WANT AND QUALIFY WITH WHATEVER YOU WANT. I KNOW A GUY WHO QUALIFIES WITH A .22 JUST BECAUSE IT'S QUIET AND AMMO IS CLOSE TO FREE. (HE CARRIES A .45 AND SHOOTS FREQUENTLY SO IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S HIS ONLY RANGE TIME.)

What he is doing is writing on your certificate what pistol you shot with.What I am going to do is read the whole current permit law front to back to see if i can find a refrence to it. If I am still not satisfied, I will email the State Police and ask them. The instructor is saying that you have to show that you know how to use the pistol that you are carrying and that it works right. He is an expert witness for the courts when shootings happens and I guess this is another angle to cover your ass. I am just being lazy and need to get off my ass and do a little research. this will be my night time reading this week.( I madea refrence 2x to my ass,does that make me gay?) |

Carry both a snub revolver and a fullsize 1911 on occassion. If I had to chose just one, it would be the 1911 due to the extra rounds, acuracy, caliber size, and the flat design actually carries better for comfort.

Out of the choices you listed, the 3913 is probably the most realistic/concealable gun in all 4 seasons. My G19 is of similar dimensions and conceals quite well. I use an IWB during the summer for better concealment, and OWB in the winter when the heavy clothes cover things up better. (The OWB is a bit more comfortable!) |

Kimber RCP . Compact, smooth, slim. Fits right into my side pocket, and I'll get a nice IWB holster when I find something I like. And, when a potential attacker sees the "sewer pipe" facing him, maybe I'll see how fast he can run.

I think that I will pratice some with my SW3913. I will carry rem golden sabre 124gr +P if I can groupgood with them and the pistol functions 100% with them in my test. I shoot the pistol upside down,right sided, left sided and then with a limp wrist hold. A full mag in each position. When I was carrying my ppks I tried 5 diffrent brands of ammo with a water test and choose either the fed hydro shock or the rem gold sab. I had a expansion problems with the PMC star and unloading problems with the corban +P rounds. The rems gave the best water penatration with excellent expansion which is very much needed in a 380 round. I nevered tried these test with the 9 mm since I was doing this at my garage in the back of my house. I made a water trap using zip loc gallon bags towards the back of the water trap to catch the bullets.

As a fellow LA CCW holder, I'm under the impression that you can carry whatever the hell you want and that the permit is not gun specific. At least that's what my CCW instructor (also an LEO) told me. BTW, I carry a G19 year round.

I have carried a gun professinally in one capacity or another since 1991. My personal opinion to is carry the same gun, in the same manner, all the time, everytime.
I learned this the hard way. I responded to a shots fired call on my way home from court. At the time, I was carrying a lightwight Colt Custom Det. Spcl in a shoulder rig. Long story short, I had an Oh Shit moment. I swept my jacket back to grab the Glock that was normally on my hip. Except it wasn't a Glock and it wasn't on my hip. Thankfully, I had another officer with me. It was embarassing and eye-opening. When the SHTF, your body instinctivly reacts. I was conditioned to carrying strong-side hip, so that's what I went for. I could have gotten me shot. I say, pick one type of operating system and carry it. If you like SAs, then carry SA exclusively. If you train mostly with DAOs, then carry that style exclusively. There's nothing saying you can't opt for a smaller frame or caliber, so long as the controls operate in the same manner and are in the same location. Next is, obviously, dont fuck around with your carry location. Pick a spot and carry your gun there. Carrying a gun all the time is a pain in the ass. Reaching for the gat in your fanny pack, and realizing you're wearing an ankle rig will ruin your day. PS - Fanny packs are gay, esp in tactical black. |

Oklahoma says that if you quality with a revolver you carry it, if you qualify with an automatic you can carry any hand gun your little heart desires. About the only thing better would be open carry.

Texas is like rbradley73064 described OK: we have either revolver or 'all'. If you qualify with a revolver you can only carry revolvers, but if you qualify with a semi-auto you can carry either. |

Their is just as much metal in Glocks as their is any other gun!!!!!!!!!! The myth of the all plastic gun that can pass through metal detectors is BULLSHIT. Their probably is a handgun made that can beat a metal detector but they dont sell it to civilians or make it publicly known!!!!!
