download ad-aware and run a scan.  it will pick up the trojans.  also, if you know what trojan it is, go to www.symantec.com and do a search for the trojan.  it will tell you how to get rid of it.

If you also have spyware or adware on your computer you should get Ad-aware . A lot of people have spyware or adware without knowing they have it.

Where is the Trojan at?   Clear your Temp internet files and your Temp directories.   Is it a javascript trojan?  You will often pick these up from Porn sites and Keygen/Hacking sites.  If you have java installed and you most likely do, clear your java cache (usually by going to Control Panel and open up the Java plug-in icon, go to cache and clear it).  You should be able to get rid of the Trojan by running your antivirus now.

Norton removal tools

Put Spybot Search and Destroy on your computer and follow the link in the program to install SpywareBlaster to prevent crap from getting on the computer.

After clearing Temp files and Java Cache do an online scan  here.

Write down the name of the Trojan and see if it is listed for removal of this tool and if so download and run Stinger

Run as many and most recent versions of the most popular anti-trojans.

The main thing is, after you get rid of those damn things, get zone alarms or some type of firewall. I did as I just told you and it's great.

A few days ago, I was swamped with a bunch of trojans. I used adaware, spy sweeper, csw shredder, hijackthis etc. Once I did that, I installed Zone Alarm (simple free version). Now I'm good.

Sometimes it makes sense to just reinstall. It does not take very long.

I thought a Trojan was supposed to protect you from the virus?

I run Norton, AVG, Spybot, Pest Patrol, AdAware, and I still get Trojans, and the pop ups are making me crazy! All day long it's www.vbssearch.

I have to believe that as long as I have kids using AOL Instant Messaging and going to all the kid's online game sites, I'm doomed.

If you are not going to switch to Mozilla or Firefox at least download the Google pop-up blocker toolbar and use it. toolbar.google.com/

You need to get your kids their own computer.

Thank you for your help, and I agree with you-I probably do need to get them their own.

geegee if you can't get rid of your virus go to pcpitstop.com on the right side under forums find virus & sypware. You will have to signup but it is free, I had 4 virus infections that set into my restore system and about 6 other places.  I ran every anti virus program on the web that was supposed to get rid of an infection and they all can back saying they couldn't get rid of the virus.

These guys are GOOD and everything is free, but may take a couple of days. They will  have run hijack this program and post it. They will tell what to do every step of the way. It took 5 days but they got rid of every one of them.

Maybe Spywareblaster will work for you. It  keeps the OS from getting infected in the first place.

(1) Use Mozilla instead of Internet Exploder.  This will protect you against 95% of the crap out there.
(2) Use Knoppix when browsing the web.  This will protect you against 99.99% of the crap out there.

Gee guys, why not at least TRY Knoppix or Morphix?  You just might realize that there is more to life than cleaning your hard drives every week!

All I run is the free version of Zone Alarm and Norton AntiVirus.  Knock wood, but I never get any popups. Not at all.

Then again I don't touch IE.  I use FireFox.  It really makes surfing (and cleaning up afterwards with one "clear all" button)  a snap

Get SpySubtract also... It's from the makers of CWS Shredder. I run Spybot S&D, adaware, and Spyware blaster. Just ran SS and it has found about 150 new ones.

Stay off the damn PORN sites, and you will never get a virus. Also, get a second email address and use that one for registering for sites like this, sweepstakes entries, etc. Just use your regular one just for email to family, friends, etc.
Get Norton antivirus, Adaware and Spybot and run those regularly.
I have NEVER gotten a virus to get to my computer this way.

Pestpatrol is another good spyware program. It runs all the time checking for possible additions of any damaging programs that could be added to your computer while online. It will even block cookies of a suspicious nature. Pestpatrol updates their list of spyware every week for you to dowload to stay current. I used to have a lot of problems with spyware, I don't ever worry about it anymore.

I put this on my system last spring. I also have adaware, and spybot. NO pop-ups, ads, or trojans on my system!!!  "Blaster" won't let any of 'em through!!

Also be leary of free shareware software. My children have been faked by them, and we get a trojan virus that is very hard to get rid of. Use only freee or shareware software that someone else has recommend.

Also should antivurus software Macafee AND TeaTimer, set it up so that it will monitor what updates your registery. 100% of the time the virus will try to change your registery, so when the question pops up by this software combo, just click on "NO." Of course if you intentinally install new software you must answer "YES" in order to complete installation of your software.
