My good friend and squad leader in my National Guard unit is also a deputy sheriff and SWAT team leader. He purchased a Class III M4gery back in 95 - 96 or so for about $4000. When he got divorced a couple of years ago, this is what his wife did to get back at him for whatever:
SHE KEYED THE SH!T OUT OF HIS RIFLE!

Look at it! Now it looks like crap! Still runs OK, though. But still - what an awful woman!

Is it just finish wear or is the receiver damaged? Registered lower or sear? Maybe a simple refinish and then do a similar treatment to her car? Ooops, did I just say that.... NEVER seek revenge!

Yes, apparently it runs fine - It has looked like this for a long time, and he shoots it pretty often. And he seems like too good of a guy to do the revenge thing. This is the same woman that talked him into leaving the Army while he was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Sorry, I simply don't believe it. It really doesn't look like key damage.

For one, anodizing is much harder than ANY key. The key would make marks ON the finish,
not go THROUGH it, unless driven by a hammer.

And how would the back curved section above the pistol grip (where the heel of your thumb sits)
get into that condition by being keyed? I doubt it.

That CAN be redone in any event. Just get the lower refinished, by the company that first made it.

Incidentally, it looks to me like the finish on it isn't anodizing, anyway. Looks more like paint. And it deserves a real finish, not paint, anyway.

Sorry to doubt you, but this just doesn't add up.

Yeah, or she could have continually dry fired the thing with the upper removed striking the steel hammer against the aluminum lower thus potenitally cracking it.

If a receiver is damaged, what are the possibilieties for remedy? Can a manufacturer "repair" a receiver? (ie... destroy a receiver, and reissue it with same serial number?) Would it be worth welding it back together, if damaged, etc...?

It can be stripped and re-annodized easily. Probably cost around $60-80.
Any local annodizer can do it. It won't mess up any tolerances unless it done repeatedly.

I wish I could suggest the place where to stick a red hot poker in this woman, but I don't think it would be proper. In fact, I would also suggest breaking out the Jigsaw and a high-powered 1/4" drill... Use your imagination for what to do with them on such a bitch that would do that.

God, I don't mind bitches, just don't do something this low. Someone that messes with my computer, car, or firearms is just asking for personal injury.

don't give up on marriage not all women are such bitches that key guns or stab tires or damage cars there are a few outthere what respect the hubby/ex hubby property .
you just have to screen the girl very carefully how she feels about those kinda acts if she says hell'ya to things like that GET RID OF HER FAST as she might do that to you . if she outrite says that this is shity to do doesn't matter what he did nobody deserves that then that one is a keeper .

I personaly would never do something like that to a gun hate or divorve i look at it that way this gun might pay later for my retirment or an emergency or something else 4000$ will go with years higher in price or will be a nice handover to the kids something from dad.
